For Those Crying 'Foul!' at Valve...

Thread Starter
I will admit, I too am a bit disheartened with this whole Portal 2 release shenanigans. Not that I really care when it gets released within the next few weeks but the first timer had me hoping.

Then I read this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1824635

If you have not seen it, it lays out in chronological order all the stuff that Valve has been coordinating for this release. It also only goes up to April 11th from what I can tell... If nothing else, I HIGHLY admire how dedicated they are and how fun they make it AND how much trust they put in the community to decipher all of this. I recommend you at least skim it and see how much has gone into this. Here is the link again.

If you decide to post in this thread to share your thoughts, PLEASE read your post twice before you post, use decent grammar, logical statements, and proper punctuation and capitalization. Let's avoid the SPUF trash and act like people who respect one another.

I was not aware of any puzzles or malicious intent by Valve upon the release of Portal 2. I have noticed a few threads pop up about some secret codes or something to the effect of how Portal 2 will be released.

After skimming through the thread posted in the OP I have come to the conclusion that Valve has used puzzles and codes to market and point the release of Portal 2. Which to say is brilliant in reality.

I find this line of thinking and reasoning behind developers (and as distributors) very refreshing in light of how many companies operate today.

And I still don't know what is going on with the puzzle/release of Portal 2...

What about all the older stuff prior to April the 1st? Wasn't there a load of things then like bizarre images getting released etc?

Yeah, there have been some other things as well. That thread on the Steam forums mainly covers things directly related to the 'treasure hunt' to the first timer. And the fact that they got Razer and all of the Indie games developers to get this thing coordinated as well as various users is just astounding. Even if over half the stuff is coincidence it is more than any COD advertising campaign in sheer effort.

Yeah, when I first heard about this in broken pieces, I was confused as anything. After reading a good portion of that thread, and skimming to the bottom of the rest, I'm thoroughly impressed, and wish I had followed this from the start. Valve puts so much into everything that they do.

I also give massive credit to the people that worked to put it all together. I'm sorry, but I don't have that much determination to work on an elaborate puzzle in my free time, at least for something like this.

I think this actually gives me some inspiration to play through the Half Life series. I also can't wait to play Portal 2. I guess a lot of my not caring about this whole complex series of puzzles comes from having never played a game in the Half Life universe other than Portal. I guess the people who got drawn into Half Life are more concerned with all of this.

It's also after 3 AM right now, and I'm going to stop this mini-rant (and contemplate a playthrough of Portal tomorrow).

A number of people on the Steam Forums are upset because they gave themselves the false hopes of Portal 2 being released significantly early (as in, 3 days earlier), and when it didn't happen, they blamed Valve for lying to them... even though Valve made no mention of it coming out that early.

I believe that is what this thread is aimed at - the ridiculousness of their claims.

Yeah there was the whole "transmission received" achievement in Portal 1, and the events that followed that.

I still think this was just a way to push indie titles.

As of right now the requirements on 7/13 games have been completed and the unlock time is still on the same day it would normally unlock. Time to face the fact that this was a total scam.
