hi guys... as the titel says .... help me mod my case....

this is what i got:

1 X haf 932
1 X laptop
2 X gpus 8800gt and 7900gs - i know i will only need one
1 X tv adapter from gpu to tv
solder & soldering iorn
heat shrink
wire - lots of diffrent sizes cores

{ pics to come here}

this is what i want to do:

i want to put a screen on the side panel and have it displaying the stats of the pc ( temp, cpu usage, gpu usage etc...) with a nice back ground

i know that i will have to strip down the gpu a bit to solder a few wires on from the adapter and all and strip down the laptop to get to the screen.

i will post pics a little later of what i got and how i want to go about it....

pls comment and post ideas of how to do this and what will be needed and if you even have diagrams

cheers for the input

You can't just connect a standard desktop gpu to a laptop screen, it uses a proprietary connection. And while you need to be a bit more specific about 'striping down the cpu and soldering on a few wires' that doesn't sound like it will work. An easier and simpler solution would be to use the how laptop with synergy and work up some kind of solution to fold the screen flat on the laptop.

well i know that laptops have a little ribbon attached to them with a piece of thing at the end.... and i also know that i am sure i can go directly from that to the gpu either from the dvi or s-video out....

but instead of doing it outside the case.... i want to tapinto the card from the inside ... so it looks a lot cleaner

i know i am going to have to do a lot of hacking here at the stuff.... and i was thinking ... that i would try on the 7900 first... and when i got it right, i will then do it to the 8800

I understand perfectly what you intend on doing. Problem is it won't be as simple as you put it. You're going to have to mod the screen because once you pull the lcd out from the laptop it's going to be a floppy bit of lcd screen with layers upon layers of filament and glass and plastic sheets. It needs a case of it's own or it's going to look god awful. (you could just smash the connection between your laptop keyboard and monitor and use the case of the laptop) Personally I'd buy a LCD kit to do this because it would be 10001x simpler. Secondly your laptop screen LCD is going to have no connections bar the thin strip your talking about. Which like already mentioned may be proprietary.

You can however buy LCD screens to do exactly what your aiming for.

Here's some stuff to consider:

*NZXT Sentry 1 5.25" Blue LCD Display Fan Controller and Temperature Monitor
* AlphaCool 200x64 Pixel Single Bay LCD Display (BLACK Case, BLUE & WHITE / NEGATIVE Display)

OK found something to get you started, I was actually doing this for my own benefit then I thought of you. http://www.elektroniksforkids.com/projects/view/PRO130/PIC-Basic-Three-Wire-Interfacing-with-an-LCD-Screen-JHD162A.php
You can get all parts at your local electrical store.
If you actually serious about this then your going to have to research, research and research some more, because no1 is going to come along and hand you the answer. Learn some electronics, go on youtube watch all Collins videos over at makemagazine channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/makemagazine

research: what is Ohms law, what is a capacitor, what is a resistor, what is a transistor, what is an integrated circuit, what is a diode, what is a light emitting diode (LED), how to use a breadboard, how to use a multimeter, how to use a solder iron, how to make your own PCB's, what is a Potentiometer. Voltages, Resistance, Current, and Watts are 4 basic things you should learn about straight up.

I've seen 101 threads like this and they all end up with everyone jumping on the bandwagon. "yeah i got an old pacman game i can use as an LCD, I'm curious how to do this too", they get 20 or so pages long but in the end you end up with 7 different guys whole pulled their LCD's apart with no results. Because each of them were too lazy to research and instead hoping someone would hand them the answer. It's a quote I love to say and reigns true in every forum and facet of life "RTFM"...
