[CVG] Skyrim 'looks the same' when playing on PC and console - Bethesda - Page 6

I think the main point is that these companies all gripe and moan about how their games are being pirated, and then they proceed to make their games a shoddy, blotchy, crappy port of their console counterparts.

C'mon guys, look at that, you made a crappy game, not anywhere near worth $60. Either drop the damn price or the piracy numbers will go up. Did you ever think if you made a QUALITY game (read: oblivion) it would actually SELL.

No, they're trying to please 95% of the people who will buy their games (console gamers) not the tiny minority that we are, especially since the PC version will be pirated to hell as always.

What? Your reasoning makes no sense...Valve's games have the most outdated engine that scales to hardware horribly. The only advantage is higher textures and resolution, pretty much exactly what Bethesda is doing...Half their games end up on the consoles and look exactly the same ported over. I have yet to see a valve game even my laptop had a hard time handling...If you're not going to give **** to valve over this strategy, how are you going to knock bethesda for doing the same thing?

Oh wait, we get higher res textures.

It's sad to see that developers don't even take the effort to take advantage of modern PC hardware.

edit: It's not that hard to at least pop in an ambient occlusion algorithm (NVIDIA has one they urge developers to use) or throw in some tessellation. Thinking about this really pisses me off, as TES 3/4 looked amazing for their time and used every trick up their sleeve in order to make the graphics look amazing when maxed out.

These look like Oblivion... http://cdn.medialib.computerandvideo...hot_252357.jpg

You guys really crack me up and show a lot of what's wrong with people these days. The developers never told you to pay top pennies for your shiny new hardware to play their games. You made the voluntary decision to drop money on new hardware. You have no one to blame but yourselves if you choose to purchase high end hardware that games do not utilize. Developers and publishers are in the business to make money, not cater to an extremely small group of whiners.

IMHO, I am glad they are no longer jumping to new engines for each game. New engines means:

- More bugs until developers figure everything out
- Longer development time on graphics and less on things that are actually important, such as gameplay and storyline
- Greater urgency on the consumer end to upgrade graphics cards or processors (IE wasting money)

At the end of the day, this is a game. A game is suppose to be fun. It doesn't have to be realistic or even advanced, just enjoyable. If saturating your eyeballs with fancy eye candy is the only way for you to enjoy games, I genuinely feel sorry for you guys. Hell I have yet to play a game where I logged in more hours than I did on Mario World 3 and still revisit old school games like FFT and Mario RPG.

Game will probably be fun regardless of graphics. Graphics fanatics can look elsewhere for their hard-on.
You say that in almost every thread that is about graphics. Where do you want us to look for the graphics? crysis 1 is 4 years old, and the sequel strayed from the style that crytek used to have. Wasn't the time difference between far cry 1 and crysis the same as crysis 1 and crysis 2?

We know that it's better from a business standpoint, but people are whining and complaining because they are sad to see the industry change and would like to have the same kinds of products that they could experience before the current gen of consoles.

Where are the days of quake, doom, etc. Where is the technical innovation? I know that gameplay is the most important bit and no game is anything without it, but could we for one get a game that's also technologically groundbreaking? And not just to how well it runs on the outdated console platforms.

People do not want the same looking game over and over and over again, they want something better, and up until this point we've always been getting better looking products, since the progress has somewhat stalled, it's no wonder the people who care for graphics are whining.

Too many people praise valve when lately they have done nothing at all, still using the same obsolete engine. Currently I find valve games some of the worse looking gfx in the industry. Guys the days of CS and HL2 is over, take a look at what valve has become in terms of gaming.

As for Skyrim, im sad that the PC version doesn't look better, but I hope with mods and better textures, the hardware im going to buy this year will be used. I honestly hope BF3 sells the most on PC, so we can show other developers that PC gamers are not pirates and will purchase a game in droves if its not a lame port. Right now consoles make the most money and sales and from a pure business standpoint there is no reason for game developers to cater to us

Creating a game with the graphics enthusiasts crave is a significant business risk. Not only would you have to release the game on one platform (since consoles at this stage are maxed out), but you will have to release the game on the platform with the smallest market share, also unlike console gaming there is no one out there to secure exclusives for the pc like MS and sony. Also creating a game with outstanding graphics cost a lot of money these days. The best bet is to support the odd big budget release that is made with the PC in mind eg Battlefield 3. Otherwise PC is tied to consoles and thus will not see better graphics until the next wave of consoles is released.

yes I know that, I was just stating, well in a pretty nostalgic way that it's normal for people to be mad.

Innovation should be the force driving a technology related industry.
