Take it from me, 850w MINIMUM
show that Quad-Fire pulls just under 800w under full load on a system with an overclocked Core 2 Quad at 3.5Ghz. Core i7's use more power when overclocked so you'll looking at at over 800w total system power consumption.
Throw in some GPU overclocking at you're looking at even more.
If you can afford a 1Kw PSU then I would not considering anything less unless you have to.
Just ugh wut.
1kw is not needed at all.
Recommended PSU from ATI was 650W at 70% efficiency.
and the 1000w is also 70% efficiency, AMD/Nvidia always idiot-proof those requirements so that practically any PSU at that rated wattage will run it ok.
it takes no genious to figure out 70% of 1000w = 700w. So I would reccomend a good quality 850w such as the Corsair AX850, XFX 850w or the Seasonic X850. All of these units are very high quality and made by Seasonic, so each will pull up and beyond 850w with gold/silver (87-89%) rated efficiency. They also can pull up to 840w on the 12v IIRC
