just finished a video will have it uploaded soon. ~283W idle, 500W cpu draw only (LINX only), 835W with overclocked graphics and cpu draw.

Do you have the model number? Also, PSUs with over-rated wattage can at times deliver only around 1/2 of what they advertise. So it may very well be that your PSU was actually a 450W unit or worse.

Your video won't prove anything unless you show us all your components. Even then, I'd trust Legit Reviews 10x more.

A Radeon HD 6970 consumes 22W at idle. Two: ~45W at idle.
Just from this we can already deduce that your GPUs consume almost no power at all in comparison to the rest of the components in your PC.
Two 6970s with a Core i7 970 and the rest of components, all at full load, consume 596 watts.
A stock Core i7 970 consumes around 150W at full load. Over-clocked and over-volted to achieve 4GHz, it consumes around 250W.
Add a generous 20W for each card because of over-clocking.

See where I'm going with this? Your CPU over-clock, if you are in fact pulling 800W at the wall, is what's causing such high power draw. The 6970s, even when over-clocked (as long as not over-volted), will only pull ~400-450W.

It make no difference as looking at you're posts you're obviously one of these usrers who always knows better.

regardless of what component is pulling what his power consumption at the wall is EXACTLY what he claimed it was.

Who care if his i7 is pulling 250w?? A very good chunk of the power being pulled is from the graphics cards.

You also have to factor in that his i7 isn't running at 100% load when playing games so in real life situations it's never going to be pulling that 250w.

His graphics cards on the other hand will always be running at 90%+ load when playing games so in typical game loads they'll pull a good 2-3x more power then his CPU will.

And people don't buy PSU's based on the load on a certain component, They buy them based on power consumption of the entire machine.

Going by that you'd also have to point that, even if he did pull 800W from the wall when stressing the whole platform, a more realistic scenario would make it around 600W, in which case that only favors my point.

I'm simply posting facts here. He said that you NEED an 850W PSU to run a Radeon HD 6970 CrossFire, which I proved wrong. If he pulls 800W because of running extremely high voltages through his CPU that's his problem. End of.
