Add a generous 20W for each card because of over-clocking.

See where I'm going with this? Your CPU over-clock, if you are in fact pulling 800W at the wall, is what's causing such high power draw. The 6970s, even when over-clocked (as long as not over-volted), will only pull ~400-450W.
Here is your video. Also at the end i say 828 but it does jump up to 835 right before i cut away

1.35v is not that high for an i7 at all....

Id like to have a psu that can handle anything i throw at it and not oh i cant run that becuase it will draw too much power....

His rig is running pretty much average overclocks for his hardware so similar rigs would also pull about the same. So it's not just isolated to his rig is it?

The whole point of a PSU is to power your PC no matter what hardware you run or no matter what speed you run it at.

A PSU that can't do that while still being cool, quiet and comfortable is the wrong PSU.

A person with common sense would by a PSU that gives them head room so that the end user doesn't have to dial back overclocking or hardware choices because of a bad choice of buying an under power PSU.

I have a 1Kw PSU and my 4870x2's give it a damn good blasting along with my 41.Ghz Phenom 2 x6.

It's nice knowing that my PSU will have the goods to run my rig if add more components or decide to overclock more.

My 1.34v i7 940 @ 3.7 with one stock 4870x2 pulled ~550 watts from the wall at full load. It typically pulled 400 to 500 while gaming.

The 4870x2 pulls more juice than any other mainstream gaming card. I would go with an 850 watt unit or more.

This SB 6950 combo doesn't even pull 300 when playing most games and gets a little better performance(just for comparison).

I ask only this. Why would you want to risk it? If you are worried that your PSU can't handle it, even a sliver of a doubt, then why would you continue to risk it? Especially with that kind of rig.

It all boils down to what the OP would be safe knowing. The 4870X2 pulls more wattage than a 470 and running two 470s on a TX750 was a scary notion for me back when. >.< I wouldn't dare try it with twin 4870X2s...

Just get an HX850 and be done with it. No reason to skimp on this kind of build.

HX/AX850 and be done with it. Try your TX750, watch it fail in furmark, then buy any SeaSonic OEM 850 and put a on that face of yours

SeaSonic OEM = any unit made by SeaSonic, Eg; XFX 850w, Corsair AX850, SeaSonic X850.

He over-volted the GPUs, which not many people do. That, and he has TONS of peripherals. Of course, this video doesn't prove anything either. A Core i7 rig with a decent OC + Radeon HD 6970 CrossFire should pull 650W. 600W if no over-volts. I already made my statement and I stand by it: you do not need an 850W PSU for a Radeon HD 6970 CrossFire rig. At full load, they pull 400-450 watts from the wall. He's getting almost 2x that, and I doubt a Core i7 can pull 350W from the wall at that voltage. That means other components are pulling a lot of power, too (what I said about peripherals).
