4670 Overclocking Issue

Thread Starter
I had my first go at overclocking my MSI HD 4670 last week using RivaTuner and guides posted online. I noticed artifacing and "glitching" anywhere over 849 MHz (clock) and 1123 MHz (memory). However, when I ran Heaven's Tropics benchmarking software (http://unigine.com/products/tropics/), I saw a result I was not expecting at all. With the card running at stock speed, I got an average FPS of 21.3 with a 537 score. And the overclocked speed yielded a 20.8 avg FPS with a 525 score. I also noticed that the max FPS recorded overclocked was 30.5 as opposed to 37.1 when it was running at stock speed. I was expecting a much higher FPS with the card overclocked.

The test was run at 1920x1080 res on high quality with no anti-aliasing.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Unstable overclock = less performance.

Lower the clocks until you don't get artifacts and there should be performance gain.

Having used 4670 before myself, they aren't that good overclockers without vmod.

Reduce speeds til you see no loss of performance and artifacting issues.

this^^
or can you raise the voltage a bit? this may help the artifacting
i usually use msi afterburner, you can adjust the voltage in it as well

4670 don't have software enabled voltage changing. I tried everything
Only physical mod will help.

yes, we can overclock in CCC. And in Expertool ATI for that matter. So should i just raise by 25MHz and benchmark until i see a dip in performance? First for the core clock and then the memory?
