Same here. Never had, never will. I don't use iTunes and haven't even had QuickTime installed in any of my computers since about 2005.

I own a computer repair business here in Philly, so over the years I have been in a pretty good position to steer many people away from Apple products, software, etc.

Yep! If you don't defend your patent, and it becomes common usage, you lose it.

Band-aid
Xerox
Scotch Tape

and some others come to mind.

Basically, the Lawyers convince them that it is less expensive to sue everything that moves than have their IP become common usage and lose their market share. These lawyers bill by the hour, so you can put 2 and 2 together...

Blaming Steve Jobs/Apple is kinda not really getting at the subject. Apple is a public company with shareholders to answer to. It's the same reason every other public corporation does shady things. The people running the institution aren't inherently evil (usually). They are just trying to keep their job.

Well said. Too bad most people here will skip your post so they can get their Apple bashing in for the day.

This coming from the company that blatantly stole Sony's keyboard design. Oh, and let's not even get into the whole Xerox fiasco of the 70's/80's. Oh big business, care you anything except for money? No, no you don't, shame on you, tsk tsk.

It may or may not be infringement, but there are many devices out there that are very... Apple inspired.

Android was a blatant iOS clone (interface wise), and whenever Apple takes a new design direction, their competitors quickly clone the new design (rounded back on the iphone 3, metal band on iphone 4).

I'd be pissed off if I was Apple and I don't blame them for bringing a suit, although I'm sure nothing will come of it.

^This. Not that i own or am part of a multi-billion dollar corporation, but this seems to be pretty common practice. I don't blame them.
