From 5850 to 6950, worth the money? - Page 2

Keep the 5850, it still has a lot of life in it. Waiting for 8XXX series is probably your best bet.

I doubt if you would see any noticable difference in game play going from a 5850 to a 6950. I'd wait till the HD 7xxx series come out later this year. Then pull the trigger on an upgrade.

Thanks for the answer so far.
You guys kept in mind that i would like to go from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080? Will the different in frames be minor between a 5850 / 6950?

what everyone is trying to say is that your current card most likely plays games well above 30fps. So you may get higher frames with the 6950, but it won't be very noticable. Even at 1080p.

If you just have a upgrade itch(which I understand) maybe a ssd or crossfire your current card. Eyeifinity?

I lol'd about the upgrade itch, it is kinda a upgrade itch yes. But then again.. I am looking into a new screen, currently i am using a couple years old 22inch LCD with max resolution of 1680x1050. I have been looking into some 24inch and even 27inch screens that looked awesome, i would stick to my 5850 but something tells me i will run into low FPS on a higher 1920x1080 resolution.

SSD will come later this year, Crossfire is out of the question because my PSU wont allow it.

The 5850 is sweet on 1920x1080

I think 600w just about covers 2 5850s aswell

Thanks, its not the 600w that screws me probably, but the psu only has 2x 6pin connector

Anyone with a 5850 playing on 1920x1080 with some detailed info?

I had a 5850 (1680x1050) for awhile, but it couldnt handle civ 5 very well, I upgraded to the 6950, (Now crossfire) and it runs better, with frames staying above 30fps. It also helped in SC2.. It was worth it for me!

Your thought on keeping the card and getting a new monitor now and upgrading your card in the summer is the way to go.

After the rush to the 570/580's, and the 6950/6970's is over and the next gen cards start rolling out the prices will drop a little. Grab the sweetest monitor you can afford and sit tight.
