Polygons make relatively little difference, especially this generation where the amount of polygons on-screen has a diminishing effect on fidelity and performance. The important aspects are shader pipelines and resolution. Realistic shaders depends on programming, not necessarily resources in this case so there isn't really a difference between Consoles and PC in terms of shaders.

The main difference between the two platforms is resolution(texture and frame buffer). Consoles lack main memory to have large amounts of textures which is the reason why Crytek is lobbying for 8GB of RAM. Even Epic games lobbied for 512MB inside the Xbox 360.
So you admit that consoles lack memory space, yet insist that poly counts are unimportant to them? (Not so) breaking news: they are.

The character models look better.

But the graphics are still bland, as if they are STILL using the same reused engine..

True, but Bethesda has already simplified Oblivion since Morrowind. The people excited for Skyrim are mostly the people who started with Oblivion. The rest know to have low expectations. And, yes I know Morrowind was simplified from Daggerfall too, but Daggerfall was a giant randomized fiesta, while Morrowind was largely hand crafted.

edit- I'm talking about less skills, worse UI, less quests, and so on. Bethesda's track record doesn't concern graphics only.

Bethesda devs have stated that other than higher res textures and higher resolution, the game will basically be able to be maxed on an nvidia 7900 with 512 system RAM. It's a sad turn for the TES series, which has previously set the graphical bar at every release.

That said, I'm looking forward to Skyrim. The gameplay of Oblivion left me disappointed in comparison to Morrowind's (depth wise), but of course the Oblivion graphics at the time more than made up for it.

The environment looks more engaging than Cyrodiil, but I do hope they take out the hand holding. Even when you turn off the quest compass, something is lost when the quest gives doesn't say "follow the dried out river east, pass the gorge and take a left at the rock that looks like 3 fingers pointing towards the sky". That was from Morrowind, and stuff like that was immersion and awesome. Of course I wouldn't mind if they add quick travel and compass on top of that rich content, but I fear they'll just cut out the "fluff" (which gives the game its soul), and just rely on crutches.

The screenshots basically look like Oblivion with better lighting and higher poly models, too bad, considering there was a bigger gap (in technology and time) between morrowind and Oblivion than there was between Oblivion and Skyrim.

i like the graphics and still am excited for this game, woopy it was dumb down a bit for the consoles, i dont care about the graphics i am excited for the story line, plus there will be so many mods to this game it will make it look amazing.
