hi there
my first build , my first encounter with hardware so just i need a simple answer for these questions and terms

1-Crossfire : what that term means is it the same as X2 ,can i crossfire 2 different GPU even with onbard gpu

2-SLI : same question above

3- what makes a graphic card better than another despite that some times they have almost the same clock speed and RAM memory

thank you everyone in advance

1. Crossfire, when 2 or more cards are active at the same time to increase performance in 3D applications. You cannot Crossfire 2 onboard graphics chips.
2. Same answer, but with the word Crossfire replaced with SLI
3. Some graphics cards have stronger/more tesselation cores, more streamed processors, higher clocks, more memory, faster bit rate, higher bandwidth and better overclockability and better driver support.

usually the higher the number, the faster the card. eg, ati 6850, 6870, 6950, 6970. The 6970 is the fastest and most expensive. A lot faster than the 6850 and so on.

I hope this helps.

Edit: x2 means to chips on one graphics PCB. EG- 4870x2, It's 2 GPU units on one board, these can be crossifred with another 4870x2. This would result in 2 physical cards but 4 GPU units.

thanks alot..............2 more questions
1-so i can make crossfire or SLI with any cards or they must be identical (number and same manufacture)?

2-and about the onboard GPU what i meant was if a had an onboard GPU can i crossfire/sli it with a stand alone graphic card?

thanks again for this great help answering my clumsy questions
