I have a foxconn blackops (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/produc...D=en-us0000385) that somehow I ended up with for originally a q9300 (abandoned that at 3.1 GHz).

Then wound up with a q9400s works fine at stock clocks and runs very cool.
Then I started to build a water loop (out of garbage... partially abandoned...found case limitations).

I'm not sure how this build even started, im guessing some of those blackout impulse buys that I'm sure many of you've experienced (have no idea you've bought an item until its at your door and your checking account is overdrawn)

I spend most of my time in front of a pc either working (IT), trying to overclock (at a novice level), or working with cad (solidworks) I just want something that's stable-ish and can run an FEA (solidwork finite element analysis) within a reasonable range of hours.

q9400 stock cant do that (should i believe a stable oc would?)

Im satisfied with my psu (ocz z series 850 gold blah blah) and my graphics (4850 x 2 + 4850 iceq4 CF) since I dont really game. So im wondering if i should jump ship and pick up an i7 and an x58 or just shove a 6 core amd into my 6 core ready garbage daily driver amd board???

I just want to figure this out while my parts still have some sort of retail value even though theyre all in great shape and basically new the q9400s literally has maybe 10 hours (q9300 MAYBE has 50 or 60 hours) the board has much more but brand new shiny TIM!

...thanks for reading my book...I know im no Stephenie Meyer
