Minecraft lags pretty bad ?

I have a i5, 6 gigs, windows 7. I really don't see how I max actual games games but on minecraft offline I lag so bad?

Probably due to the programming nature of minecraft.
From my understanding calculations of the game is done block by block.
Not to mention that the world generates as you go along.

And with that, it might help to lower the Render Distance as well as the Limit Framerate option and see if that helps.

Also tinkering with some of the other video settings might help.

I've seen some very low end systems play Minecraft fine with no lag but of course, detail settings turned way down.

It shouldn't really lag that bad with the settings turned down.

My friend plays on a athlon x2 hd4200 laptop. I'm saying it's not his CPU.

I personally turn that dynamic lighting off, with lots of torches it lags bad.
