i7 950 OC help - Page 2

Pretty much agree with the above.

Does the TIM that comes with the Noctua have a curing time? Or is ready to go as is?

Did you reapply TIM when you reseated the CPU? Also are you sure that you need that much vcore for 4 GHz?

you the lucky one to run 4Ghz at 1.22Vcore, mine just doesn't work at this voltage on 4Ghz, i need 1.35V and still not sure if that's stable or not, it did finish with 100 runs of Linx, but during this time it also crashed steam and firefox, so I don't think that 1.35V is even stable. Maybe it's something else, but these temps are really bad, I will need to drop to 3.8Ghz then maybe crawl to 3.9GHz with lower voltage, will need to test it. Oh well can't return it now, wanted to swap it for the 2500K but pasted 2 weeks exchange period so I am stuck with below 4Ghz chip.

it seems to me that i7 950s are worse from 920s, this doesn't make sense though they should be better but they are not.

Different binning, they tend to run a little warmer. But on average the 950 does 4.2+... Otherwise its really the exact same chip, just a different multi

If you could cool yours it would probably do 4.2.... Break out the 1500 grit sand paper

The next steps would be to Lap the cpu, there is a chance that it is concave and lapping would create a more even contact area between the cpu and HSF...
I tried running with side panel off and didn't see any change. The first time I installed the cooler I put about grain of rice size of paste the second time just a bit more, but the temp didn't change at all. And as for lapping I am 3 years away from that LOL. thanks for you intput 10acjed. I just got an unlucky chip, should have went with 2500K, someone just said they aren't fun to overclock, but alas I am disappointed with my 950 now.

Those temps are really unreasonable. Just a shot in the dark since you seem smart but are the fans on the cooler plugged in?
