Solved: EVGA GTX 580 SLI Problem

Thread Starter
I just got my EVGA GTX 580s this morning. 1 is the basic version and 1 is the superclocked (ended up cheaper, off ebay, both NIB). I whacked them in and set up SLI. Can't upload a screenshot at the moment as I'm on my laptop at uni, but it appeared to all be set up right. I have MSI Afterburner active and when running 3Dmark 11(free version), AB shows me that the second card does nothing unless I choose it to be the physX processor in the nVidia CP, in which case it goes to 10% usage during the physX tests. I then disconnected the #1 card (superclocked) and ran with only the second card, in the same slot, with the same power cables hooked up, as it was when in the SLI, and got the same results in terms of FPS and score, so the card is not dead. Through all of this I had the basic card OC'd to superclocked speeds with Afterburner. Scores in SLI are pretty much the same as when only 1 card was in in 3Dmark 11.

So, in conclusion, does anyone know what the problem would be?

(Yes, I do have the SLI bridge connected, and played around with making sure it was in properly and changing which way it was connected. Assuming it goes in the connectors closest to the output end of the card? That's what it looked like in the manual)

Did you do a clean install while having both cards inside? After installing them, you have to also enable SLI in the Nvidia Control Panel.

I was previously using an ATI 5770, so the drivers, etc installed were off the disk provided with the SC card, and updated if any programs said a newer version was available.
I did enable SLI in the Nvidia CP, once I put the second card in.

EDIT: the Catalyst Control Center is also uninstalled.

From what I'm reading, are you saying you did not install the drivers when you had both cards in same time? Make sure your up to date on the drivers. There were new official drivers that are out today.

That is correct, the drivers were installed with only the superclocked card in. When I get home in a couple of hours I will attempt to download the newest drivers from the website and see if it works then (installing said drivers when both cards are plugged in).

You should probably get driver sweeper and remove all your nvidia and ati drivers while in safe mode then install 270.xx off the website.

Yup, I'm positive you should be fine after that and a clean install You may want to driver sweep your ATI drivers too like what Balla said.

I had a similar problem, in my case it was detecting the second card as a standard VGA, I finally managed to get them working by:

Quote:
- Removing the drivers
- Rebooting
- Download the latest drivers.

Yep, just finished messing around, managed to get it all to work after getting rid of the driver, and all the old ATI ones, and installing the latest from nVidia's website. SLI seems to be working like a charm, except that the cards seem to make a high pitched squeal when running some things.. noticeable at ~40% fan speed, but unable to be heard at 70% fan speed.

EDIT: Or maybe it is silent in-game, as I hear that some cards will squeal because of ridiculously high framerates in game menus, which is where I seem to be hearing it the most.
