Yeah, I see what you are saying in the results I'm seeing, so I might as well go with the Silver Arrow. Same price, and ever degree counts biggrin.gif Thanks a lot for the help.

One more question if anyone could answer it for me. I see that the SA has some clearance issues with ram heatsinks, does anyone know if these would be a problem?

Shouldn't be. Though you can always move the front fan to the middle, and the middle fan to the rear to accommodate ram with large heatsinks if necessary. That is one advantage the D14 does have. Better ram clearance.

Here are the specs for the Silver Arrow direct from Thermalright.

they shouldn't be but sometimes it also depends on the motherboard check that the ram slots are a reasonable distance from the cpu socket and that chip-set cooling isn't too close and going to foul it.

That said personally I would get the noctua brilliant heat sinks. 1 or 2c differences in reviews could be just down to seating or whatever, and you can find any number of reviews with different results.

Actually the Noctua outperforms the Silver Arrow when push comes to shove:
http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cases_cooling/thermalright_silver_arrow_vs_noctua_nh-d14/2

i7-950 @ 4.4GHz @ 1.45v silver arrow failed.

However 1155s don't get that hot, so either of the two would be more than sufficient

I wouldn't take one review that says it "failed" vs. many that say otherwise. Results seem more than a bit skewed in that test. I seriously doubt that upping the volts that much caused those results. Looks more like the reviewer didn't use TIM on the 4.4Ghz test. Reason for my disbelief, below.

980x @ 4.4Ghz with SA/D-14

Silver Arrow can handle RAMsticks up to 44mm tall (GSkill Ripjaws). D14 can handle higher.

SA is 3dB quieter than the D14. The D14 has the best mount ever.

Posted this a few times now regarding the SA and Ripjaws redface.gif

Notice how high the front fan is raised with the ripjaws? Means you can't get your side panel back on wink.gif You can always move the fan to the back of the heatsink if you don't have any huge heatsinks around there or just use a 120mm fan on the front.. If I was to choose again I'd probably go with the D14 btw, just less hassle with ram compatibility.
