SB overclocking questions

Thread Starter
Please do forgive me if these have been answered before, I'm sure they have and I just haven't looked hard enough, but I couldn't find the correct answers to my questions.

First of all, max SAFE vcore for SB? I had my chip at 5ghz at 1.53v for a few hours, and it seemed stable, then I read somewhere that 1.52 was the max safe voltage, so I dropped it down to 1.52, wasn't stable so I went down to 4.9ghz. Seemed okay for a day, then today I woke up to my computer being locked up at a black screen. I shut it down and turned it back on and started messing around and got a BSOD 124, which I new was vcore. This is after I was prime stable for 14 hours.

Could the 1.52v degraded my chip? Or am I going crazy?

Also, for SB, what is the max safe memory voltage? I just bought a set of 1.5v 2x4gb sticks and I want to make sure I'm not going to screw anything up by messing with my ram voltage.

Thanks guys!

think SB maxes out ram voltages at 1.65v but check,

running your chip on a very high over-clock can and will degrade it normally we hope it degrades slowly sometimes you push too far and it degrades allot faster :'( nature of the beast im afraid.

I wouldn't dare go over 1.45v for even a suicide run. Anything between that and 1.5v would be me feeling risky and daring. Lol.

My safe zone is 1.42v and below. Anything below 1.4v feels safe, anything above 1.4v is something I will probably run in a couple years when I want to have my processor break down quicker so I have a reason to buy a new product

Note however that my chip doesn't overclock the greatest. I can get 4.8GHz at 1.43v, and that's stable for a 15 minute prime95, however I haven't tested it for longer than 15 minutes; I may need to pump something closer to 1.47v into it, who knows. I am doubtful that I can hit 5GHz without going into 1.55v or something, and 4.9GHz would probably be above 1.5v as well.

My first 2600k was a better overclocker I think (was a better batch), but I never got to OC it. Tech made me return it coz he thought it was broken (long story lol).
