Why does it matter?
Mine is : L042A969 what does that mean?

if you make a batch of cookies all of them will pretty much taste the same because they were made using the same dough and oven and temperature etc. SO a batch of cpu chips or motherboards is pretty much the same concept, only they're not made of cookie dough :-)

Batch numbers can help pin point problems, for example a few people with the same batch number may have the same problem, and if you have that batch number then you should maybe keep an eye out for the same problem.

OR in the case of overclocking, chips of the same batch GENERALLY tend to overclock similarly.
