This! LOL

But seriously, who knows exactly what will come of this. Hopefully Seagate takes some pointers (and the appropriate tech) from Samsung, and makes some quality drives. I generally only buy WD or Samsung.

on topic, i think this is a good move. i'm sure this will benefit both sides and hopefully seagate will slowly wash its bad rep away.
Just because some users have a Seagate drive that has never failed them doesn't mean that tons of other people haven't had a crappy or DOA drive from them.

Anecdotal evidence doesn't count for anything, nor does something that doesn't show the latest drives, Seagate or not.

I think that's what caused them to lost a lot of their customers. That and seeing reviews on here they don't seem to have a very good RMA service.
Indeed they did, even Samsung had heaps of batches of bad HDDs. (The Samsung SHD-125 was one)

Indeed, Seagate may have horrible RMA but Samsungs facilities would still make the drives, it'd just be a new logo.

This is what it is, all the people complaining really should stop...Assuming everyones right and that one bad series means all future Seagate drives are bad, Samsung's design team will have to work somewhere and I bet a majority will be at Seagate now, assuming they're not...Well, Samsung's design team and facilities will make the drives even better.

Just like Visa Versa, just because their old series was crap and some people have had bad drives, doesn't mean that everyone will or even that the majority will, Samsungs had bad drives, WDs had worse drives (Anyone remember the Spartans? One store got a few here that failed within 6 months, they're so bad WD pretend they never existed.)

Seagate will probably get the HDD designers and facilities from Samsung, there's nothing to worry about...Add in the fact Seagate aren't as bad as everyone says they are, as well. (And this is coming from someone who is currently using 7 Samsung Hard Drives nearly 24/7.)

Guys, all this anecdotal evidence is meaningless. It doesn't matter if you're RAID has been going 3 years without fail, or if you've have 4 drives of x company perform great or fail all in a row.

If you want true statistics, look at the newegg reviews.

500gb F3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-181-_-Product

WD 640gb black: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-319-_-Product

7200.12 500gb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-395-_-Product

I'd say that the 640gb WD black drive is a gold standard of what a drive should be, and the fact that Samsung put out a drive thats currently the highest rated drive on newegg really speaks for their design team, and certainly backs the praise that Samsung has been getting in this thread.

By comparison, Seagate had a real loser with the 7200.11, and the 7200.12, while not flawed like the 7200.11, doesn't have the best reliability in comparison with the other market leaders.

We'll see what happens...

Out of those newegg numbers, 2 of the Samsung owners who voted 1 star weren't verified and 43 of the Seagate owners who voted 1 star weren't...

One guy said "Cons: Killed 2 power supplies (-5V)." for the Seagate, I'm not sure how this works as the -5v isn't even connected to the Hard Drive and I doubt that'd be a typo...All in all, newegg reviews are not the best place to go for an opinion on a Hard Drive.

I'v had these 2 250gb seagate drives running raid 0 for the last 4 years or so. I guess I must on e of the lucky ones, but from what I have seen, samsung drives have been doing rather well. Next step up for me from these drives will most likely be an ssd.

I just ordered an F4 2TB to go into external enclosure a few days ago fearing that they may not be around much longer. When it came to large mechanical drives for storage you just couldn't beat Samsung. Not only were they the cheapest, but they are also one of the fastest and most reliable.

I know they did this because SSD is the future, but I still think we're a long way off before SSD's will be practical for storing large amounts of data.

Samsung HDD's will certainly be missed be me. WD will most likely serve my storage needs in the future.
