GTX 580 Phantom 3gb low FPS in Crysis - Page 4

Apart from DA2 I didn't have any problem running 2x GTX 580, later on I'll try to installa crysis 1 and see how it fares. I'd investigate the HDD issue though, may be an accessory to murder (of your videogames).

Hard drive failures are... weird at times. Run an error check on your hard drive before blaming the card, last thing you want is to go through the hassle of returning a card/buying a new one only to find out the card wasn't the problem.

Just checking it now, it's brand new, shouldn't really be having any problems :/!

I did have Crysis on my C300, but it was exactly the same story.

I have the worst luck in the world:

First of all my 650D is the defective one, with the bad fan controller, and loud fans.

Secondly, the HDD shuts off when transferring from my External USB3 HDD

Thirdly, my External USB3 stops working, and I have to keep reinstalling the USB3 driver to get it working again.

Both the drives mess up when I transfer from one to the other.

Finally, the graphics card isn't worth the extra dosh, I may as well downgrade to the HD 6970 Lightning or DirectCU... Then Crossfire later on when I get more monitors.

I think my computer is just having a hard time recognising all these hard drives...

It could also be your PSU to be a blame as well. Something to look into. CoolerMaster units are generally not recommended...and for good reason. The Silent Pro 850w was (if I remember right) a decent enough unit though. And obviously, we can't rule out HDD issues either. Make sure in Power Settings (in the control panel), its set to High Performance, and go to advanced, and make sure your HDD's aren't set to auto shut off after 20 minutes.

You should be able to max out Crysis 1 without AA, or even up to 4x AA. The AA in the Nvidia CP does nothing by the way (at least for me on Crysis). And the AA on Crysis still leaves the foilage looking horrible, even after modding.

GTA IV should be maxable, at bone stock on your rig. Make sure its fully patched and GFWL is fully up to date, BEFORE trying to start the game.

Black Ops...its a horrible ported game (although GTA IV is too, but we can expect a port from Rockstar 99.9% of the time). Some people have Black Ops run perfect, others its a constant headache. This is exactly why I never have paid for a COD game past Modern Warfare 1 (I do own Black Ops, but it was a gift).

when running 5040x1050 in any game my vram usage is always above 1500MB.....3GB cards have their uses, and it doesn't have to be only with 2560x1600 monitors.......it would help with multiple monitors as well.......now as for the frame rates you're getting?......that's very interesting because an E8400 with a single 470 are getting these

Lower your AA down to like 4x or so, and it should be playable. I can't use AA at all at 1080p with my 470. That's with Crysis completely maxed out though (without AA).

Also, you should consider looking at OTHER games, and see how your 580 performs on them before judging it.
??? R u trolling, Crysis is definitely GPU intensive, but 5770 is definitely weaker than 470 in ALL games.

Okay fine...maybe an HD5770 won't KILL my 470 in Crysis, but it will still beat it. A HD5830 gets roughly 35 FPS average (roughly) maxed out with 4x AA at 1080p. My 470 gets 26 FPS average with the same settings. I'm very confident that a HD5770 will still beat my 470 in Crysis.

I understand that a HD5770 is a lot weaker than a 470. That's kind of durr.

But that's also my entire point. The Fermi cards suck badly at Crysis 1 for some odd reason.

Can't try any more games until my HDD says it's fine, and without error. I think it's USB 3.0 to SATA III which may be the problem. It's only when transfering, the drive doesn't shut off after 20 minutes, I've definitely set the power options.

The thing is, I actually know mostly what I'm doing, I just can't believe how bad the GTX 580 is for the money, I wanted a taste of what the best single graphics card in the world can do, and if this is it, I'm not impressed. One iota.

I'm pretty sure, it could be a BIOS update (with regards to the HDD issue) for the Sabertooth, as it is usually the BIOS updates which fix any HDD issues.

It is 100% the revised board, so I have no doubts there. God, computers are so frustrating.

And I literally am astonished at how good my GTX 470 was for the money. Doesn't look ANY different on my GTX 580. Complete waste of £467!

Edit: Oh this isn't good, the disk check is stuck at 1454 files processed. Does this mean it's defective then? I don't want to have to RMA this too.

Well, to be fair the 470 was, and still is an absolutely solid bang for the buck GPU. Getting the 580 definitely won't make games LOOK any better, just give you higher framerates is all.

The disk check being stuck COULD just be from a large file. You should be running the Western Digital Diagnostics on it (I forget what they're called). Should be an ISO that you download, burn, and then boot into it instead of Windows. They might have a Windows utility out by now though, not sure.
