Also, another reason for me saying this, is Crysis Warhead actually runs WORSE than the original maxed out, due to slightly better graphics. It's only more optimized in Gamer settings. When set to Enthusiast, its more demanding than the original.
as i mention the fps will drop instanly when it had heavy combat sometimes i can see my fps will drop to 25fps , but this is not always happen , plus when i only get 25fps i can still feel smooth performace... and yes i set 16xQ in game and everything max with enthusiast

Random Thoughts:

Part of the problem is that 16xQAA is crushing. Lot's of people say they 'max' crysis but they do NOT mean w/16xQAA. However, 4xAA should totally be playable on a 580 maxed out otherwise at 1080p.

Also people you're talking to may be running large OC's on both GPU and CPU, both of which definitely help FPS nicely in Crysis. You should do the same

I'm betting having v-sync off would help the score (if you could get it running).

A 470 and 5850 are very close to equal on Crysis, with the 470 being slightly faster and w/noticeably better MINS. NO WAY does a 5770 beat a 470 at Crysis. Fermi's aren't THAT bad at Crysis people ... it's just not their 'strong suit' vs. AMD cards.

DON'T use NVCP to change the look of Crysis, leave everything on default/app settings and change what you want in the game. Weird stuff can happen if you 'force' settings on Crysis.

At the prices you're talking about the 6990 is a MUCH better bang/buck card. Esp. on Crysis, where they're about equal in performance. But damn the Phantom is sexy!

Lastly: IMHO, ya shoulda just got another 470 for SLI. Two 470's are the perfect amount of power for running games fully maxed out at 1920 resolution (they're still beast at 2560 res, but on a very small handful of games will run out of vram if you crank the AA). Even at stock the 470 SLI will beat the 580 by a solid 25%, and have way more OC'ing headroom. Both at their max OC's, SLI 470's will best a 580 by 35-40%. This also was by far the cheapest way to get more power since you already had a 470.

I sold the system that has the 470 in, that's why I can't keep it! I just wanted rid of it, and I'm pretty sure I'll end up sli'ing anyway!

Specs are in my SIG, I'm running 32-bit Crysis on Windows 7 64-bit ultimate at 1920x1200, with x16Q AA, it also freezes when I run without vSync, so I'm stuck using vSync.

I get around the 20-28 FPS mark sometimes lagging to about 15 FPS in huge battles. I've seen other people run at 30FPS constant with these settings on the 1.5gb version of the card, I'm curious as to why this could be happening, is my new i7 2600k at Stock bottlenecking the GTX 580?

I'm really unimpressed, my old system with a GTX 470 & 955BE + 3.4ghz could run it just the same, if not better.

So what's the deal, I've tried drivers, nVidia settings, and I'm hoping to try some graphics mods, see if they help! Any suggestions for ones that work well with steam?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Peace.
There is no way anyone is running Crysis 1 at max settings with a single video card of any type with 16XQAA at anywhere near 50+FPS. There is no need for that level of AA which most likely is crippling the FPS.

It took me 2x 580s just to break 60fps at 1920x1080x8AA.

Yeah whoever told you/showed you a GTX 580 is doing that, is full of crap.

Sounds like you have identified STEAM issues, have you managed to get your games working? For what its worth, the 270.61 drivers work fairly decent (same as 270.51 but WHQL certified.)

I just skimmed through the thread. I'm not sure why so many of you are having issues with Fermi cards. My GTX 480, "back in the day", definitely got ~40 fps (average) with all the settings maxed and 4xAA. I just turned on the game with my 560 (@ 970/2300) to check; with 270.61 drivers, I'm getting roughly 40fps (same settings as above) on the first level, running around the foliage, shooting, etc.

One weird thing I noticed was that when I first fired up the save file, I was getting FPS in the low 20s. Checked Afterburner and sure enough, my GPU usage was around 60%. I Alt-Enter'd in-game to windowed mode and then Alt-Enter'd back in, my fps shot up to a solid point. Get Afterburner if you don't already have it, and check your GPU usage; do my little Alt-Enter trick and see what happens.

Also, if you're getting crashes with Vsync, these issues, etc., do a clean driver re-install (sorry if it's already been mentioned, I'm low on time so I couldn't read everything); driver sweeper and everything.

^that's an obvious problem with triple buffering not working right.
u can either do that everytime u play the game (alt-tabbing out and in) or u can download D3DOverider.

this happens to me a lot. before i know about d3doverider. after i know about it, every game is a breeze with vsync

I am averaging 65-70 FPS on Crysis Warhead 1920x1080 16xQ AA with the minimums around 45-50 FPS on my stock setup...

One thing I do notice at these resolutions and max AA are more of a studder... Might be due to my PSU walking on egg shells even though the numbers don't show it.....

Proof again...

I think most of my problems are down to these: http://www.overclock.net/intel-gener...-problems.html

Sorry if it may seem that I am trolling, but it is my own thread, this is just to address a different issue that may have a knock on effect.

My friends are actually laughing at me right now, cause I've just spent £1500 on a system, ranted about it for ages, and I can't even get it to work.
