Yeah like 2thAche, mentioned, drop the memory to as slow as you can get it until you OC the CPU.
Thanks mate, it certainly helped. Now that I know that the RAM can be left to last I'll be able to focus on one thing at a time

Glad to see you're doing this right. H7O will be plenty for it, mine is still kicking at home with an H5O, low temps.

Now I managed to get things going for the first time.

I have unlinked the RAM and used the setup you mentioned. I managed to get 2520Mhz and booted it at the second time. The first time it didn't work so I went back to the BIOS and I set the System Memory Multiplier SPD to 2.50A as I had a guess this would help (Strap FSB to 266 - before it was "auto").

Booted normally Windows 7 loaded perfectly. Actually I am writing this on my OC computer still. I have attached an image of what the tests registered. As you can see the gflops are lower than what you expected, and I am not sure if it could be related to the SPD setting?

Thanks for the advice on the cooler, I am already stopping with this as I can see the temp going 70+ Celsius. Now that I have a clue of what to do I'll just wait for my H70 to arrive, then I'll just keep pushing it until temperature reaches the low 70s. Hopefully I'll be at 3.6Ghz by then.

That's amazing with a B3. A lot of people say it's pretty hard to get past 3.1Ghz. Fortunately mine is G0 so I have more space to play with it.

I'm not sure that I understand you here. You said you couldn't get past 3.9Ghz x9 multi but ok with x8 @ 3.3Ghz? Why not reduce to 3.8Ghz with x9 multi? (I am sure I am missing on some info there or not making my maths calculation lol).

Yes! Water cooler on the way!

Yes my RAM runs at 1600Mhz stock.
Obviously this is going to be another chapter once I get my CPU to the limit. The good thing is that my mobo and my ram seem to be made for Overclocking. The restriction will be the CPU in terms of how far it will let me go. If I manage to reach 4.0Ghz then I'll be the happiest nerd in this forum
glad i could help. i am still a noobie at this, so i know what it is like.
first of all, i meant to say 3.0ghz and not 3.9
your h70 should give you a BIG drop in temps comapared to a stock cooler

i wouldn't worry too much about the gflops,
as long as you can run IBT 5 times and it passes the test
also when you oc the ram. use prime95 and use the small fft test, this will test your ram. (i think, one of them says lots of ram tested)

looking at your pic, i would not stress test anymore until you have your H70
also this is extreme, mine hit the 70's.C as well, but running a game like BFBC2 it never goes higher than the mid 50's
also mosy G0's can reach 3.0GHz on stock voltage.

with my B3. i seem to be lucky as i have lots of people say they cant get past 3.0GHz on them.
but a decent mobo does help

Ok, got my parts, H70 in place, GTX570 installed...

I had a little hiccup with my RAM which decided to crap itself when I removed it (one module is kaput). Luckily it's Corsair so lifetime warranty ftw.

I had 2 Gb (1x1Gb) DDR3 1600Mhz here not being used, so I decided to replace with them + the other module alone. It shouldn't notice much of a difference. By the way, this is going to be temporary as I am buying 4Gb more to top it up to 8Gb DDR3 1600Mhz once I get my failed module replaced by Corsair

In the mean time I'll start playing with the CPU which will probably keep me busy for a while.

Oh I almost forgot to say that my CPU is at 21 Celsius with stock speed. That is amazing! It was used to be around 50+ Celsius before. A lot of room to play

Wish me luck!

Started the OC, it will take a while for the tests to complete as my temporary memory is slower but I'll get there.

One thing that is annoying me is the noise coming out of the H70!!! I've just measured 60db+ with my mobile app.

Do you guys have a suggestion on a brand to replace these Corsair ones?

Ok just an update, went quite well with the two first tests using stock Vcore.

Both x9 300 and 9x 320 went fine, temps pretty low.

Having issues with 9x 340, decided to go down to 8x 380. I tried 5 times with 9x 340 changing voltage up to 1.4V in bios (1.36V on CPU-Z) and system was freezing on windows during ibt.

Running ibt now for the second time with 8x 380 and it just froze on me. I have a feeling it is something to do with the memory, I thought I had unlinked it but maybe I am wrong as the BIOS doesn't seem to let me do it...

Investigating...

Yeah I thought that too because I kept pushing the Vcore up at the same multi but it kept freezing. I stopped at 1.4V BIOS.

I now tried again but with 8x 340 1.35V and it went fine during the ibt. Temps are pretty low (I am saving the data to post here once I reach my CPU's limit).

I'll start working with 8x and see what happens, 360 next.
