First sound card, which of these two?

I don't know a whole lot about sound equipment but I was thinking of getting a little bit more into it.

I've been told to go with the asus xonar line over the creative sound blaster line but this deal seams pretty good.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...29102019-L013D

My original choice was this xonar card.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829132006

Stick with original choice or take advantage of the deal?

I would personally op for the top link. You don't see much difference with sound cards unless you have great speakers to back it up and the music you play is high quality. If onboard sounds fine for you, keep it and save the money.

Taking care of the latter shortly. I probably don't really need it but it's tax season and I seem to be spending a bit frivolously and i'm aiming to make sure all of my extra spending goes directly into my computer.

If you have the money, get both. If you're primarily looking to do FPS gaming, get the X-Fi. If you're into movies and music a lot more, get the Xonar.

I think the general consensus is that the Fatality would be a better gaming card, but the Xonar would be better for music. I've never used ASUS, so I can't really comment, but I absolutely love my Creative Titanium HD.

Hmm. That's tough, getting both is a little bit beyond my frivolousness and I don't think I will have room for both on my motherboard since I am getting another 5870 soon. I do all of those activities and it's hard to give one priority over another.

The x-fi card is the best choice for gaming, and if you are waiting for BC3, get that one.

Damn, it would have been nice if I just so happened to pick two that were good for the same things. Now I have to pick between games and music, tough one.

Dont worry. Its not the cards its the lines.
The X-Fi cards are generally better for games and the Xonar cards are generally better for media.

I would recommend the Xonar. Its still fantastic in games, and its better for movies and music while the X-Fi just has being better in games on its side.

I have the Fatility, it's great for games and music don't get me wrong! And the EQ in the software, makes my 595's sing.
