post #1 of 15
Thread Starter
hi , ive been told to get

Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gelid...9-940-am2-am2p

The standard amd cpu fan on my amd phenom II X6 1055T is noisy!

and i want a more silent pc...

COuld anyone tell me if i should go ahead and buy this, or are ther better more SILENT cpu coolers i should consider?

also ive never installed or replaced a cpu fan before. Is it risky??

take a look at the Corsair Hydro 70 or the Noctua DN-14.

Lots of options for 12m fan coolers that are fairly quiet especially on idle.

It is only risky if your are ham handed and don't break the TIM bond between cooler and heatsink...yanking the CPU out of the socket along with the cooler....or if you don't ground yourself etc. If you're careful and work slow and do it right, it is simple and straightforward.

Seems like he's looking for noise reduction, not extreme performance.

For the price the Tranquillo is fantastic, and it will be much quieter then your stock cooling. Also consider the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ if you want to save even more. Tranq is the better cooler of the two however.

At 19 dBA per noctua fan I think the OP can have the best of both worlds.

Tranquillo is good and silent CPU cooler so no worries

or if you some +/- extra 10£ to spare look at TT Frio or cogate arrow

If you want a quiet CPU Cooler, I'd consider one of the following:

- Noctua NH-D14
- Thermalright Silver Arrow
- Thermaltake FrÃ*o (With it's fans lowered to minimum speed).

Those are my favorite options, I would never consider an H70, they're too loud for what they can offer.

H70 is not silent if you're using the stock fans.

Exactly, but if we consider how expensive the H70 is, and you'd have to add another $20-$30 to get proper fans....

Not sure about USA, but here in Europe:

Corsair H70 -> 90€
Noctua NH-D14 -> 70€

Considering the following:

- Noctua is A LOT quieter by default than H70 (Noctua is 6ºC-8ºC cooler than H70)
- Noctua is A LOT cooler than the H70 by default (The Noctua is inaudible)
- Noctua is 20€ cheaper

Why would you even buy an H70?

I honestly don't recommend the H50/H70's at all, I've had them, and I will never buy them again, I'd rather take those air coolers mentioned above which are a lot cheaper and a lot quieter.
