The E420 is nice. Some pros are
-great keyboard (probably the best chicklet on a notebook),
-solid build/very nice styling, a glossy display that to me seems a lot less reflective than most,
-and right now the 1600x900 display upgrade appears to be free, putting it at about $550, which is an absolute steal
for a sandybridge 14" with 1600x900. If you're a student, academic pricing brings the price down a bit more and includes 4gb ram at no extra, and there's a 5% academic coupon on top of it. I just configured an e420/i3/1600x900 that came to $505. There's just nothing that compares in that price range, so far as I know.
But..it's not exactly thin and light. It isn't bulky by any means, though.
Now, there's the brand new E420s
, which is a new thinner/lighter design of the Edge 14 (even a slot loading optical). It's still priced pretty well at $699 ($671 academic), and imo worth it. But..no 1600x900 option
, yet, but allegedly soon.
Now I just realized the one I am looking at is the E420, not the E420s. Apparently there is a difference lol. I am just excited about a 14" 1600x900 screen with a SB processor.
No 1600x900 for the 420s yet. =( Apparently it's on its way at some point.Edited by Otterclock - 4/20/11 at 9:05am
