Checkout my SandyBridge i7

Thread Starter
Hey guys finally after a month of research I finally managed to assemble my sandy bridge ....... I still have to do a lot (in terms of OC) and would share that as well. For now enjoy some pics.

To begin with below is my final config...

Processor: Core i7 2600K Sandy Bridge
Mobo: ASUS P8P67 Pro
RAM: G.Skill 16GB (4X4) 1600 Mhz DDR3
Primary HDD: Intel X-25M 80GB SSD
Secondary HDD : 5.0 TB WD and Seagate
Cabinet: CM690
GPU : Sapphire HD5850X2 Crossfire (this might go to single card as my Bro wants one)
AirCooler : CoolerMaster N620
Powersupply: CoolerMaster eXtreme Plus 650 W

This is without the monitor, keyboard, mouse, an all coz I already had those. Lets hope its worth it.

I have assembled the system. We now have to see how far we can OC it. To begin with few snaps of my Rig.........

I know poor cable management but after 3 hours to get this thing up and running I was to tired to go for proper cable mgt ....

Will continue with first impressions and few benchmarks........... Would love to have inputs from you all. .......

overall looks nice... having all dim slots populated may interfere in getting all you can in terms of overclocking your cpu. Maybe a better cpu heatsink?

looks good, (cable management needed as you said though lol)

EDIT: yes i'd also go with a better case... try something with better cable management capabilities... then you wouldn't really have to worry about a modular psu.

that cable management needs work. it not good enough to be "poor" yet.

I think I would get a new case and a modular PSU.

It sure is nice hardware that you have. I gotta ask though, are the fans on the cooler facing the proper direction. The fan on the back side of the cooler, near the rear of the case, looks like it's blowing at the cooler. Typically people use the rear of the case as an exhaust, thus the fan near the rear of the case should also be exhaust.

Your right!

Turn that fan around! You want that one blowing out the exhaust and the other side should be blowing into the heatsink. Cannot see that side to tell if it is right. (Push/Pull)

You get an F- now lol

Dam you are right, I got this all wrong ..... though its not affecting as one might fear,(38C CPU temp with 33C Ambient temp) but still the design went wrong .... I cant change the cooler now, the only thing I can do is to flip the exhaust fan to make it work as in flow ....

yea man i totally missed that... you want the airflow going one way... preferably out of the exhaust fan in the back.. so it will be push pull

why can't you change the heatsink now?

if you switch the exhaust wouldn't it still be wrong airflow lol...

correct me if i am wrong, haven't done air in a while

Don't rotate the exhaust fan to blow in.

Take the back fan off and stick a long screwdriver in the back to remove the 4 fan screws from the cpu heatsink. You don't have to tak the whole board out. Turn the fan around.

On the right side, make sure the fan side is showing instead of the back. If it is wrong, take it off and turn it around.

Get this right because it will affect overclocking and temps under full load.

Do you have a fan in the front of the case?

Damm another hour in doing this ...... I have to flip both the fans of the heatsink to get this right ...... I dont want to remove the heatsink completely so I will try this ....

yes I have a fan in front of the case as well blowing out ...... 2 at the top, both blowing in and one at the side, blowing out as well....
