CIVE and 1100T

Thread Starter
I've decided to rebuild my computer from the ground up, as my 9800GX2 died recently and my 9950BE will not go over 3GHz. I've decided to go with the Asus Crosshair IV Extreme and an 1100T. I understand that some RAM can only be used with intels now apparently? Sorry if I'm wrong as I've been away from the high performance scene for awhile due to college. When I left the fast RAM was 1066 lol. My main question is, would this RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-20231431-L03B) be good for this setup and for overclocking it?

2X4gb ram sticks don't oc well. May I suggest 2 kits of G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 7-8-7-24(I know they can go 6-8-6-24) or G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 6-8-6-24. 4 sticks of ram will not effect the oc on any Phenom II X6 cpu.

The ram should work pretty well for you. The "Designed for intel p67" is just an advertisement. Its like saying these tires are designed for ford... but they'll work on a chevy.

So you recommend 8GB at 6-8-6-24 instead of 16GB at 7-8-7-24? Also, everyone says the the Ripjaw X is the same as the normal ones, but in the two you linked to the Xs have better timings.

Most people barely uses 3gb of memory and I barely uses 6gb. Do you really need 16gb of ram.
EDIT
What do you need 16gb of ram for?

I do video editing that take about 6-7gb of ram. For gaming you only need 4gb of ram.
EDIT
My brother has 16gb of ram and he uses about 12gb of it by playing 4-5 games at one time.

At once? Wow. Probably the hardest thing I'll be running is Visual Studio, Photoshop, and of course games.
