Portal 2 a console port? - Page 12

The Source Engine was developed and again as far as I know still developed for PC's only.

I've got nothing against consoles, but I extremely disagree with the statement that Portal 2 is a console port which is based on one screenshot which shows (most likely) a mistake.

On a fun side:

The PC screenshot being a -1 and Valve's word being a +1.

If we add up those two numbers we get a 0
LOL... your math reminds me of the old statement about winning an argument on the internet... and comparing it to the Sspecial Olympics.

But at the same time, Valve was deleting tons of threads questioning if it was a console port on their official forums. Just makes them look guilty and people suspicious.

And your statement can be easily countered with: "Crytek has more PC games than console games"

and lets look at some time lines for Valve Games:
Since the November 2005 release of the 360: So we go with games from 2006 on, since there was no 360/PS3 before then.
Half-Life 2: Episode One 2006 PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Half-Life 2: Episode Two 2007 PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Portal 2007 PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Team Fortress 2 2007 PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Left 4 Dead 2008 PC, Xbox 360
Left 4 Dead 2 2009 PC, Xbox 360
Alien Swarm 2010 PC
Portal 2 2011 PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Dota 2 2011 PC

so since 2006 they have 9 games and 7 for consoles. But only 5 for the PS3...
wow, really since basically 2006 we have been on these consoles? they are getting old. FAST

Occam's razor. The only proof you have for it being a console port has been explained, in a viable way. Thus there is no proof left, thus the easiest answer is the one Valve gave us is true.

If you play the game you can clearly see many areas (PC/ hi rez) that are blurry and or do not show up correctly / look washed out, you can even tell the posters are not as high resolution as you should expect on a full fledged pc only game.

Example, in areas on the sealing you can find what looks like stepped shadows.. that is something I see often on CONSOLE games.. I think they made it for Console and then ported / polished it a bit for the PC version, they most likely did that to make it rather close no matter what platform you play it on. (because the consoles are limited hardware wise) but they also went for balance so you can run it on older pc hardware just fine.

It is still a good game though.

I can tell you that with my sig rig, running only a 4870 512 - It runs on max everything with no lag at all.

the problem is, we really do not know.

But... since the game went gold months ago... no one played it again since? No testing? They waited til the community found it to change it? mistakes happen, but that is a pretty easy to spot mistake if someone in their testing department tested it one last time on the computer since sending out the final code.
Haha, I know it sounds silly, but I believe that's exactly what happened. Once a game gets sent to various distributors, 95% of QA is usually redirected to other projects. In addition, programmers, engineers, and artists are either redirected to other projects or begin working on DLC content.

Over the development process, usually only a couple hundred people (this is for games with insane amounts of external QA and many development teams) get to play the game for an extended period of time. The programmers play to make sure any changes to game functionality work, the engineers play to make sure that resource management and engine functionality remains efficient and stable, and artists play to make sure that their textures and models look good. Now, QA is usually instructed to play the game looking for any issues at all.

Now, since QA would probably be more likely to encounter this error (aside from the programmers who actually worked with the save function and the menu function), it's hard to tell if it's likely that they'd notice the issue. If the error causing the issue was made before final distribution, then the lowered number of QA and the reassignment of the development staff would certainly make it plausible that this issue went unnoticed.

If the error was made earlier on with full staff present, then it's definitely still possible that the error went unnoticed, just less likely. It's no surprise that a game being played by a few hundred people could get shipped with an error that is immediately noticed when upwards of 60,000 people play it.

It was an error that if noticed by staff would have been fixed, regardless if it's a console port or not.

Like I said before. I cannot argue with your explanation. It makes perfect sense. Either way, I am enjoying the game, and I am not the one that started this thread just to see a "**** storm"

and I still hold the fact that it is quite possible that Valve simply lied.
