Forever Young - a Dell Dimension 3000 mod [DONE!] [Updated June 8th]

Forever Young
The Rebirth of a Dell Dimension 3000 Case

Case modding is all about finding the potential in your canvas, whether that be an existing case or a pile of lumber. Last year I took the liberty of performing some impressive structural and aesthetical modifications to my family's Dell Dimension 3000, and I was pleased with the results. However, that case returned to its hiding place under a desk, and a desire to attempt a repeat performance grew in me.

So, no surprise, when I found another 3000 on Craigslist, I bought it, with some even more extensive modifications in mind. My goal for this upcoming experiment is to breathe life into this case so that it can adequately support a modern high-performance hardware set. As if that weren't ambitious enough, my plans also include an internal water-cooling loop for a new CPU and video card.

"Forever Young" is the title and theme of this worklog, which reflects my effort to imbue a metaphorical youthfulness in this unlikely chassis. I have high hopes and any support this project acquires is much appreciated. Thank you.

Comments, Questions, etc.

I wish I had some decent images of my first 3000 mod, but this will have to do for now:

Looks monster! add a window/mesh or fan where the dell logo (circle) on the side panel is! subbed

EDIT: The Black & Orange theme is becoming rather popular...

Thanks. I do plan on adding a window. On my first mod I screwed up on the cuts and ended up replacing the whole panel with an acrylic sheet. I'll get it right this time. smile.gif

I really like how the white/orange combination turned out on the first one, but I want to try something different on this one... I was thinking black and white, but now I'm thinking I want some color.

Now do something cool with the outside of the case. biggrin.gif

I have one of those floppy bay covers if you want it in perfect condition. I actually have an entire one of these cases lying in my shop. (I have thrown away dozens of them over the years) PM me and we'll figure out how to get it to you.

EDIT: Sent, glad to help and GL. thumb.gif

Thanks!

On another note, I was reminded after picking up this case that normal people don't clean out their PCs. Yuck.
