Apparently I wasn't clear. I don't have an old motherboard. I don't have ANY motherboard. I need one to build the server!
So, because I am on a very low budget, I figured I could save some money if I just get some old dual gigabit motherboard off of eBay...
All the other components are stuff that I had lying around. I have the CPU, RAM and everything else.
Ah, i thought you were gonna upgrade your sig rig and use the old cpu on the server, figured you could use the old mobo too.
I'm gonna tell you now, dual gigabit is pretty rare and you're gonna have a tough time finding a mobo with it for less then $60. It would be much easier to just buy a "normal" board and add a NIC for $10.

Actually I already found 3 auctions! It's the ASUS M2N-32 SLI Deluxe!
And yes, they sell for less than 60$!

It's a home server - it doesn't need the latest HW to perform well. Also, why throw away perfectly good (albeit old) parts? For a few bucks, I'll have a server up and running that will improve my productivity significantly.

Furthermore, as you probably know, *nix operating sytems run VERY WELL on old(er) hardware.

I see of no reason to not do this. My other options would be to either throw the stuff away (yeah, right) or attempt to sell it, but that would be difficult and hardly profitable.
