Motherboard ?

I have receintly built a system that i purchased from microcenter and my question is about the MB i got with it and how to boost performance for gameing (RIFT is my game of choice atm) I will list my system components first then the slight overclocks i have applied

AMD Phenom II X4 840 @ 3.2 (OC @ 3.4 through bios)
Asus M4N68T-M V2 mATX
Microcenter 4GB DDR3 1333 (2x2gb)
600w psu w/ 36a on 12v rail
Galaxy GTX 460 768mb GDDR5 (OC 835MHz CC 1670MHz SC 1925MHz)

The MB i got with the processor only has PCIe 1.0 where as my Gcard is PCIe 2.0 and the FSB is only rated to 2000MT/s where as the CPU is HT 3.0 rated at 4000MT/s. The question is this if i replace my MB with the Asus M4A88T-M will i see a performance boost in my 3D apps (RIFT) the above mentioned MB has 5200MT/s FSB and PCIe 2.0

The game with current settings i get 70fps when around the world solo but once i get into a populated area it drops to 20-30 and the GPU usage goes from 80%+ down to 30% when in populated areas

My internet connection is 30meg and my latency does not seem to drop when in the populated areas so i am guessing it has nothing to do with that any help on this matter is greatly apperciated

your board has a PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot

No worries you are good to go. Don't worry about HT anything over 2000 does not effect performance anyways with your hardware.

I am not totally familiar with RIFT but the FPS issue may be a result of VRAM choke?? Because of only the 768MB of VRAM. I'm not sure your resolution either but that could be it. Ease up on the xAA and see if that helps.

Edit: Also your CPU has no L3 cache as most benchmark CPU's would have. Not sure if that would cause those issues but just an idea.

That board will be tough to overclock as it doesn't have heat sinks on MOSFET's or NB. What you have now shouldn't be bad though.

Also ensure you have the latest nVidia driver if you don't already. That is pretty much all I can give you from that info.

sry left a few things out Win 7 home premium 64 rez for the game is at 1920x1080 (Rift is a WOWish type MMO game with better graphics) when i had AA enabled u have option for either edge smoothing and supersample only used edge smoothing it may just be a game issue also since the game is new and may have some bugs

Nvidia driver is up to date but they have not updated it for some months now so i could also just be waiting for them as well

AA didn't seem to make much of a dif

side note when i went to asus website to compare the 2 MBs it said there was not PCIe 2.0 on the MB i have so i assumed it did not have it

from what you are saying it sound like a bought an under powered Gcard am i correct ?

frankly speaking, running a phenom cpu on such a cheap more u make u fall in troulbe,u may end up burning/frying your cpu because the mobo dont have enough power phases (3+1) to run a phenom smoothly,
so better u get asus m4a88t-m,its a decent mobo & it has more ram slots & better power phasases than that crappy mobo,
hope this helps

You should be fine if you keep the vcore close to stock, your board does have overvoltage protection.AMD systems really benefit from overclocking the NB,so leave the CPU at 3.4 and get your NB around 2600MHz,that should help if it is CPU related.I have one of these boards and there is no difference performance-wise on this level of hardware.
