Is my Corsair HX520 enough?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I recently posted on here regarding my HX520 PSU and whether it would be up to the task of powering my machine with the addition of an MSI GTX560ti. I asked around the graphics card area and they said I should ask here for more definitive answers, so here I am.

I've read people giving mixed answers in similar situations featuring closely spec'd machines, with some saying the HX520 is a beast and others saying upgrade the PSU.

Here's the PSU
Here's the card

I don't plan to OC the graphics card, but in the future I might push up my CPU a bit.

My current specs are:

Intel i5 2500k (4Ghz)
Asus P8P67 Pro
Corsair Vengeance 2x 4gb
WD 500gb Caviar Blue

In the other replies that I got, they mentioned stuff about rails and amps etc, of which I have no idea what it means and if any of you could elaborate on this as to what this actually means, that'd be great!

in theory, that PSU can power up your system, but you'll be pushing it especially with the overclocks. I suggest get a better high wattage PSU, that way you'll have more headroom in the future and well, you can also go SLi without worrying about the PSU ^_^

You will not have any kind of problems, period. It doesn't matter what kind of overclock do you go for, you will have plenty of juice to spare

Please, don't post if you don't know anything about PSU's. That PSU will never ever get pushed with that system, no matter what kind of oc you try to do.

You could probably put 2 x GTX560 on that psu. Not that I would do it, though.

It might just be over! Especially if you overclock the CPU which you may need to. I would suggest a Corsair 650W.

have you counted other factors that may put the PSU in pressure? I did say it can run the the system right? i didnt say it cant.

That PSU won't feel any pressure unless you put a bazillion fans or HDD's, but don't come here saying that a solid 500W psu is not enough for a simple Sandy Bridge + GTX560 when it doesn't matter where you look at it you have a ton of power to spare.

Go and find reviews yourself, because you seem to be very uneducated on the matter.

I cant really find where I said that it cant run the system to be honest, i did say pushing it yeh, but if you read again, i never said, it cant run his system.

The fact is that IT AINT PUSHING ANYTHING. If you consider a better psu for a i5 2500K mildly oc'ed and a GTX560, what kind of psu would you require for an i7 920 @ 4.2ghz + heavily oc'ed GTX480? 800W?

And that is from the wall, when you factor in 80% PSU efficiency that is only about a 250 Watt load on the PSU. So he is all good.
