You wanna moan, then have my CPU. I hit idle at room temp but I load at 75C. I go any higher (TjMax is 90C) and I will hit the Thermal Limit and my CPU will shot down. For 3.8GHz I need 1.53v. I can hit 4.0GHz at 1.55v and 1.664 for 4.2.
ooooooooooooh dont worry, its just a **** cpu, end of chat, only had it week or two, cant wait to get rid of it!

Personally I would take your CPU over mine any day.

Also before doing anything else why don't you shush and actually attempt to see if is YOUR error and not the CPUs?

What TIM are you using? If it is crap then that explains the temps.

Reseat your heat sink. Even a small air bubble will cause your temps to be higher than they should.

Pea sized blob in the center of the CPU is enough (but I usually use a tad more).

the most annoying thing is... ok, so yeah i can get it to 3.8 - 4.0 - 4.2ghz... but i absolutely cannot stress test it at all because it will hit the 90C mark.... once it gets near that I will manually stop the test, so even it it was stable at those frequencies with the voltages needed... ill never no because i cant stability test the damn thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you getting to 90C at 4.0GHz even with a Megahalems? If so, something is not right.

thats correct... i did lap my megahalems.. and i know your not spose.. but i had my q9550 lapped along with it and i got such awsum temps it was sweet... i think maybe having a lapped megahalems with an untouched i7 could be something, but then it wasnt because i tested temps with the stock intel cooler and they were 10-15 higher idle etc... (bearing in mind this is the second i7 950 ive had i sent it back due to all the problems im describing now and this one is the same, probably the same chip,m but couldnt be bothered to go through all the process again and be without pc for as while)

In other words it's you and not the cpu

Wow you got a really bad Q6600 I am sitting at 3.2 ghz @ 1.256v I havent gone higher yet as I havent slapped my tuniq on yet. Currently making sure parts of my sig rig work...stupid BSODing mobo...I swear that is the problem.

Any ways yeah dude you just drew the short straw for the silicon, cant do nothing about it but sell it and try to find a better one
