Screen recording lags?

Thread Starter
So I recently decided that i wanted to try recording my self while i play some BC2 to show my friend that i can indeed get some awesome headshots lol. but the problem is i dont know if its my computer or what, but i lag when ever i try to record it. Could it be that the program im using just does not record very well? I use Debut. Is there any other free screen recording software that are better?

Recording game video is actually very stressful on a system. First of it has to acutally process the image of the game, then it has to write each and every frame displayed to the hard drive. This means that a slow processor or hard drive can really hurt FPS when recording. RAM also has a factor in it, but seeing that you have 8gb, you should be alright on that front.

My suggestion? First off, try recording to a short directory, like C:/Record. This won't give a huge boost but it can help a little bit. The easy answer is just to get faster hardware, or overclock. A fast quad core will make crunching those frames to the hard drive easy. Another thing, try recording to a SATA hard drive other than the one the game and windows are running off of. Alternatively a RAID setup would help, although not worth it if you just want to record.

Hope this helps.
