Primairy monitor goes mental when adding a second

Thread Starter
Strange problem here. I recently upgraded my system from 785 chipset to 890, I'm using onboard graphics and had no problem running two monitors on the old 785 based system.

Now though on this new 890 based setup when I enable a second monitor the primairy goes very flickery and streaky while the second monitor displays fine.

The pic makes it look better than it is, lucky for the auto revert or I'd probably be facing a reinstall.

I tried connecting a different size/res secondary and the results are the same. Any ideas what's going on here?

Do you have a spare GPU to double check it with?

I'm thinking faulty MB.

Think I've got an AGP card here somewhere, will try and dig it out tomorrow.

You need an PCI or PCI-Express card. AGP doesn't works.

Ah of course, there's no AGP slot on this board, was thinking of my old one.

Is there any other way to tell, any chance a software issue could cause this?

Have you installed your motherboard drivers/on board video drivers yet?

Yeah everything is installed and up to date. I'm going to try a quick re-install, hopefully windows has just quietly broke itself.

looks like a hardware problem..

.i'd start with the simple stuff first by swapping monitors see how they behave...
..change resolutions... see how that goes..

...reinstall drivers.

all the way down to motherboard problem..
