Gratz in the mint laptop bro! I just bought the m11x r1 off here because i had very little funds
the Su7300 and the gt 335m should be enough for light gaming and general usage which is what i bought it for If i had the money i would have bought the r3 without hesitation

lol heat issue, screen size issue, battery life issue, weight issue, etc. Please let us know if you enjoy it! I personally wouldn't invest in such device.

wow so after going round and round with dell support and waiting for my friends m11x r3 nebula red version to come I have finally deduced that it doesn't support sata 3.. it is sata 2. The support guy and my friend told me that they might upgrade it with a bios update sometime later on but don't count on it. Ohh well leave it to dell to take a sata 3 enabled motherboard and cpu then disable the sata 3. 8(

Hey guys,

to follow up, does the M11x R3 come with a restore disk? I will be getting mine is a week, and an intel 320 160G ssd and I want to get prepared to install the OS on this SSD. should I use this disk, or track down a retail X64 windows 7 disk? is the restore disk a true windows 7 disk or is it some sort of "ghost" image?

Also if it does not come with a disk, does the create a back up make a real windows 7 disk (with a few additional files im sure from dell)? or once again is it a ghost image? if it is infact a real windows 7 disk can anyone post the iso?

You will receive a Windows 7 OS restore disk to restore your OS back to factory. But I would suggest that you boot up your laptop and make restore disks for the hard drive. What this disk allows you to do is make a ghost backup of your hard drive. I would suggest doing this because there is a protected restore partition which allows you to restore the computer to factory without using the disk.

Lol that would look too funny, the M18x would look so massive compared to that haha. I got the new M14x myself and I am loving every bit of it. I wouldn't have been happier with a laptop from a different manufacture.

I am really looking forward to using it. I think first off Iam going toget knee deep into an opensource project to hopefully work with Wayland integrating in optimus tech. As of right now I have decided to hold off for the intel 520 for the laptop and a intel 720 pcie for my desktop.

I have heard some bad things about the Seagate hybrid drive. I would suggest a Intel ssd over it if the price is right else stick with normal hdd. The hybrid drive from what I hear uses more power and is difficult to handle in Linux because of the flash memory used as a cache. Also the price on them +$150 you can get a ssd that last longer and is 150% better permance!

Thanks JadedRedDragon. Any recomendation though on installing to the SSD? should I use the disk or use the restore ghost image that the back up creates? Ive herd that using a ghost image is bad due to sectors being misaligned on the SSD or something like that.

Why the hate?

I've got an i5 M11Xr2 last week and love it!! I'm going backpacking for 6 months. I'm not carting round a full size laptop and a netbook doesn't have the grunt I need for gaming and H264 1080P HD video editing. I can't think of another laptop which will cover all these points..

Heat issues.. What heat issues. Currently at 42C in a hot kitchen. Hottest i've seen ether CPU and GPU is 70C while gaming OC'd to the max.

Screen Size.. Errr what?? I bought an 11" laptop because I wanted a small laptop. A small screen goes hand in hand with it..? HDMI out is easy when i'm at home.

Weight Issues.. Is 2Kg, Man up

Also i'm blown away by the performance. 1366x768 BFBC2 All High settings (Except Shadows set to medium) 1xAA 4xAF and the game never goes below 35FPS. Its usually up aroun 45-60FPS.. What more could I ask for. Fingers crossed the Witcher 2 can cope OK.
