Massive CPU bottleneck on both setups at 1920x1080.

Yep! Well, maybe not a constant 60 fps, but very close with high AA, AF, etc. I suppose SLI 580s will net you some more life out of the setup.

If you go with SB then you should be bottleneck-free.

That's my plan!!

Most likely will be

1. GPU
2. MOBO CPU RAM (Ivy Bridge)
3. 2nd GPU

win?

Hmm.

When do you plan on buying this? If you can wait a while, you could get Ivy Bridge and Kepler for even moar win.

Man Ive been waiting for like 2 years to buy a new GPU and MOBO/CPU/RAM combo!!

Every time something nice gets released, rumors start about whats coming NEXT!! Gahh

When is Keplar being released?

SLI GTX 580s will get you about 60~65fps with 8xAA and Very High settings in Crysis. I actually think Metro2033 plays a little bit better.

The GTX 580 3GB will only be better at playing 2560x1600x8/16AA and 5760x1200x4AA in many games. For everything below that, the 1.5GB will be fine (GTX 580 or the GTX 590 in other words.)

Most people think, oh hey, I have 3GB of VRAM, I can play all games max resolution and max settings and get 60 FPS. This is not the case. Most titles are between 20-35fps at that resolution.

You will need 2 or more GPUs regardless of how much VRAM you have to push those FPS out of the gutter on max settings + Ultra high resolutions or multi-monitors.

The GTX 590 SLI performance is about on par with a TriSLI GTX 580s. Maybe improve a bit with drivers, however I believe they are the perfect 2 card setups. Like having a slower quad core vs. a nicely clocked dual core. It will cost you a lot though for this setup.

A GTX 590 right off the bat will do much better than a single GTX 580, but not quite as fast as a GTX 580 in SLI. A second GTX 590 later on will help get those FPS much much higher.

Currently I can get 75 fps with max settings in Crysis 1920x1080x8AA, and Average about 85 in Metro2033 on its Max Settings also using Advanced Physx on the Frontline benchmark.

Also to add, a single GTX 580 is certainly not over kill for 1920x1080 and can struggle to reach 60 fps on quite a few games on max settings, which is very sub-par especially for quality 120Hz monitors. Even if you don't have a 120Hz, having a game struggle around 60 fps just means that you will see constant dipping into the 45~50 ranges, which I personally don't like with all the screen tearing. I try an aim for around 80-90 fps in all games, or 120, if they support that frequency in Vsync.

Late this year/early next year.

If you have the money now, go for SB and the 580. You won't regret it.
