How does hyperthreading fare in performance against real cores?

Like an i3 that supports hyperthreading, does it perform as well as a a real quad core?( in programs and games)

Real cores are always perferred and work better. I would say against a Core i5 750 , at least 30-40% increase in performance. Plus the extra cache doesn't hurt either.

One HT core is roughly a half real core, on average. Sometimes more, often less, it depends on how well coded the exact software is to cope with HT. Obviously code written with HT in mind will run better on an HT CPU than code that isn't.

A real quad with the same architecture will be significantly faster than a dual with HT on top.
