[Help] Re: Overclocking E7500 on P5Q SE2

Thread Starter
First of all, Hi/Hello smile.gif as this is my first time joining and posting a thread here in OCN and also my first time to OC my CPU. Hopefully I am not violating one of the forums rules by posting and asking this smile.gif.

My problem is, I'm just a newbie in OC'ing and I really want to learn on what is needed and how it works that is why I'm trying this out. Just a little scared that what I'm doing as it is possible that I will be frying my CPU or damaging my mobo accidentally. redface.gif

I have read alot of topics about OC'ing here but I'm having a problem understanding other vital information. I tried OC'ing my E7500 on my PQ5 SE2 Mobo to 3.3 GHz running at Idle on 33°c and at 49°c on full load.

Below is the Screenshot of my Tests on 3.3 GHz with 1.25v in CPU Voltage.
33ghzfullload.jpg
Uploaded with ImageShack.us

BTW:
I am using Ai Tweaker in BIOS Setup Utility but I don't quite know on what I need to set for the other settings namely:
Ai Overclock Tuner: Manual
FSB Frequency: 300
FSB Strap to North Bridge: Auto
DRAM Frequency: Auto
DRAM Timing Control: Auto
DRAM Static Read Control: Auto
MEM OC. Charger: Auto
CPU Voltage: 1.25v
FSB Termination Voltage: Auto
Memory Voltage: Auto
North Bridge Voltage: Auto
South Bridge Voltage: Auto
CPU GTL Reference: Auto
CPU Spread Spectrum: Auto
PCIE Spread Spectrum: Auto
CPU Clock Skew: Auto
NB Clock Skew: Auto
In the Advanced Tab, the settings are:
CPU Ratio Setting: 11 [Max]
C1E Support: Enabled
Max CPUID Value limit: Disabled
Intel (R) Virtualization Tech: Enabled
CPU TM Function: Enabled
Execute-Disable Bit Capability: Enabled
Intel (R) Speedstep(TM) Tech: Enabled

I validated CPU-Z and got this result.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1777550

When I am trying to use the FSB Frequency to 320 Value and my multiplier as x11, my PC just turns on but it doesn't boot. It just turns on/off. How can I possibly run it on 3.6 GHz or more being stable?

Just got stuck on 300 FSB x11 and is running smooth but I don't know if it is stable. I am using Prime95 to stress test my settings and it did not meet any error. DRAM Frequency goes to 375 MHz and FSB:DRAM Ratio is 4:5. I wanted to also learn on how to set it as 1:1 if it's possible.

BTW my PC Specs are:
Motherboard: P5Q SE2
Processor: E7500 @2.93 GHz - OC'ed - @3.3GHz - 1.25v
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master V8
Casing: Aerocool Strike X w/ 3 Fans
Video Card: Sapphire ATI Radeon 5770 1GB DDR5
RAM: 2 x 2GB DDR2 800 MHz Team Elite w/ Heat Spreader
PSU: CMX Cougar 700watts
HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Blue

A guide or a response would be greatly appreciated smile.gif Please help me regarding OC'ing. Thanks smile.gif

Ai Overclock Tuner: Manual
FSB Frequency: 400 x 9 = 3.6, (if you can do 450x9.5 = 3.825GHz)
FSB Strap to North Bridge: (what is under this tab)
DRAM Frequency: (you want to set this and the one above so you have a 1:1 ratio with your FSB. So if FSB is 400, you want your ram at 800)
DRAM Timing Control: Set these to stock timings of your ram.
DRAM Static Read Control: Auto
MEM OC. Charger: Turn this off if you can or put to standard
CPU Voltage: For 3.6-3.8 - up to 1.35-1.4 (may be able to go lower to 1.3v at 3.6 but depends on your CPU and its stock voltage).
FSB Termination Voltage: Set to 1.24-1.28
Memory Voltage: Put this at stock value for ram unless it will be overclocked, then up it by 2 tenths of a volt to give you some wiggle room)
North Bridge Voltage: Increase to 1.3
South Bridge Voltage: Set to stock value (if it is 1.2 set to 1.2)
CPU GTL Reference: Auto <- leave auto
CPU Spread Spectrum: Auto <- leave auto
PCIE Spread Spectrum: Auto < leave auto
CPU Clock Skew: Auto< leave auto
NB Clock Skew: Auto < leave auto
In the Advanced Tab, the settings are:
CPU Ratio Setting: 11 [Max] (for 3.6, do 400x9, for 3.8 do 450x8.5 (or 400x9.5)
C1E Support: Disable this
Max CPUID Value limit: Disabled
Intel (R) Virtualization Tech: Enabled
CPU TM Function: Disable this
Execute-Disable Bit Capability: Enabled
Intel (R) Speedstep(TM) Tech: disable this

Wow that was fast. Thanks for the response Lord Xeb! I'll try to use that settings you gave me. BTW, after 1 Hr of stress test using Prime95, my system went to BSOD >_<<br />
Regarding - FSB Strap to North Bridge: (what is under this tab) - It's set to Auto.

I adjusted my settings like what you advised and it worked like a charm. I tried 3.6 first. Will be trying 3.8 if settings goes stable.

BTW, for Mem. OC Charger - It can be set to Auto - Disable - Enable
I set it to Auto. I'm not sure if Standard is Auto.

North Bridge Voltage can be set from 1.10-1.40. There is no option for 1.24-1.28 so I selected 1.20. Do I need to increase it to 1.30v?

South bridge voltage can be set from 1.80v to 2.30v - I set it to auto as I don't know the stock voltage.

I also saw the Ai Clock Twister, It is set on Auto but the options are:
Lighter
Light
Moderate
Strong
Stronger

Do I need to set this? I left it to auto.
Thanks smile.gif

Do 1.3 as it will be plenty. Leave the auto setting for the SB if you don;t know.

Leave AI clock twister on auto for now as I have no idea what it does. You could make a new thread and ask on here if you like.

for Mem. OC - set to disabled.

FSB strap set that to 400

>.> I use to own an e7300 which I got to 4.0GHz on air. Things are little beasts if you can keep them cool... sadly mine needed 1.5v for that D:

Okay I'll do that. BTW I'm not sure if 60c is bad for a full load CPU Temp. I am not sure if Open Hardware Monitor is accurate in taking temps as it is going from 56c-60c but in Real Temp or in Core Temp, the Temp is just going from 49-52c on full load.

E7300 on 4.0 GHz? That's quite scary for me to try on my E7500. I'll be testing my system on 3.6 GHz. Thanks alot for helping me out. Much appreciated smile.gif

What can you advice about using stress testers? Would it be IBT or Prime95? smile.gif

That's wonderful for under load (60 c). I probably would start worrying if it started going over 85C (for air that is) I generally prefer Prime95 for stress testing. Short fft's help to test core stability, and Large fft's help to test Memory stability.

BTW for this one, when I set the FSB Strap Set to 400 and Disabled Mem. OC to disabled, i went back to turning back on/off again and not booting. I tried to reset the settings again and didn't include the last 3 settings and it worked like a charm. I'm not sure as what is wrong as I did it correctly. Any tips about what happened? >_<<br />

The highest that my CPU temp went to ATM is 60c. I'm just a newbie in OC'ing and I'm quite worried when my temp goes up to 60c. Thanks for the answer smile.gif. BTW, do I need to stress test it for 12-24 hrs using prime95 as what others said?
