Overclock Tips?

Thread Starter
Hi all

I decided to start overclocking my CPU which is a PII 955BE. i can get it up to 3.9 GHz stable for 15 mins but then my computer crashes. i am going to get a 6970 so i can crossfire them and i don't want my CPU to be a bottleneck for the system. any hints on what i can do to get my clock rate higher? i use AOD because my bios wont let me change my voltages for some reason. my temps at load for 3.9 are 45-50 so i know its not over heating. i want to try and get at least 4.0 GHz. any help would be appreciated

Try using the "+" and "-" keys to edit the voltages. Also, try for your highest fsb clock, then raise the multiplier.

I'd suggest if you haven't already seen this thread http://www.overclock.net/amd-general/525113-phenom-ii-overclocking-guide.html start by studying it to get the basic's down while you learn your bios. It'll give you lots of good info plus give you a path to follow. Do one area at a time and learn as you go.

Never use a utility to OC as it's rarely stable or optimized. OCing is best done in the bios and takes a little time. You'll have lots of responses telling you to do this, or try that. But it'll never be as good as actually learning the basics yourself and asking questions when you get stuck on a particular area.
