is 6 raptors in RAID 0 a good idea?

i've upgraded my system to a happy place,...everything except my disks, if Cash is of no issue and i dont want a bunch of ssd's how well would 6 VelociRaptors preform in RAID 0 preformance wise, (i know about Raid 0 failure rates etc)
depends on what you use them for. you should get good speeds but your access times will still be slow compared to an ssd and thats where you will feel the sluggishness. it isn't worth it in my opinion

Bad idea. You can get better speed, albiet with less space, in an SSD. Also, if a SINGLE drive goes out, you lose EVERYTHING on all 6 drives.

An SSD would still be better unless you are moving large files constantly.

ssd's are too small and i both game which requires tones of speed and i do some heavy computing that requires me to move large ammounts of small files arround all the time witch can be a problem on SSD's

I enjoy the performance and storage provided by my raid 0 raptor array. If you are interested in 4+ raptors, look into raid 0+1 or 1+0, I see your mobo supports it. I just do normal backups weekly and I have had no issues. If you can find a good deal on them, jump on it. Once you hit 3+ HDDs in raid 0/0+1/1+0 array the performance increases as well.

With that many drives, you're much better off doing a RAID 5. It would still be much faster than a single drive, and you get a good degree of redundancy (1 drive can totally fail.)

That is good to know but im looking for raw preformance, i have a networked backup system that automaticly backs up all of my data nightly

If that's the case, then you are all good to go. I think the biggest worry was a drive failure with potential data lost. But since you have some sort of daily backup in check, again you are set.

sweet... but would it cause a bottle neck in the rest of my system?
