Crysis 2.. Amazing Framerate? - Page 3

I'm glad that CryTek made C2 accessible for older systems. If they bumped it up even higher for high end systems rather than giving them 300FPS then that would be nice too I suppose.

My only gripe about the gameplay is that the combat gets pretty repetitive after a while. But other than that, it's a fantastic game from start to finish and kept me glued to it the whole way through!

It reminded me of Half Life 2 actually, in terms of the same shock and awe I felt from that game when I first played it due to the articulate details and physics engine (at it's time), and very few games ever do that.. Most games just seem to be run of the mill and "slightly" better but Crysis 2 managed to raise the bar big time IMO.

I hope that CryEngine 3 gets used on alot more games, maybe just some enhancements to AI and with DX11 support in the future too. Graphically the engine and smoothness is magical though.
seriously man, then just tell me where in the game were u able to see any thing which is at least 2km away from u and was not a wallpaper and was an actual rendered model...i guess not...and thats what im talking about...c1 had such great draw distance....c2 does not even have half of that.....and about textures..except for the suit and guns all other base textures like buildings and vehicles were toned down a lot....even the foliage is less sharper.....even the ai and physics systems r not as gud......
as said before only the lightning has been improved which makes the game look as if its better to some non experienced eyes........+ it runs on dx9..
so of course even a really old rig will run this game like a champ.....nothing great on crytek's part.....

i mean if u take out the toppings from the pizza it would automatically become cheaper.....but would it mean that the cook has done a marvelous job....i guess no......end of discussion

Physics and fully destructible environments were scaled back. Ray tracing for sunlight was removed. Draw distance was cut to a fraction.

The use of more "gleaming/gloss" and artificial colors makes Crysis 2 look more "modern" but from a engine standpoint, the graphics took a step back.

What's the deal with this? Is it because I have an nVidia card? Or has CryTek managed to do the unthinkable with CryEngine 3 and produce amazing graphics at amazing framerates? (even for lower end cards)

I mean.. even on max settings (Hardcore, 1280x1024) it never seems to drop below 30FPS. I am VERY impressed to say the least! Makes me wonder.. why can't more PC games pull this off?
Love it.

im sorry i dont see why you are so excited. running the game at the low res of 1280x1024 are you really surprised you get good frame rates with a game that is no where near as graphical as the first. just my 2 cents anyway.

It's a console port. All console ports can be run maxed out on humble hardware.

Not all console ports. Some console ports are just poorly coded. I'm looking at a few games. Grand Theft Auto IV and Black Ops. Also, having played the game, I have to say that I was wrong to rant and complain about the game. It may not be the insane graphical powerhouse that Crysis 1 was at release, but it's still a damned good game.

Thread Starter
CryTek has optimized the game engine big time and the AI is fine, it just needs some improvements (like Crysis 1 does).

If it would make gamers happier, maybe adding 100km+ draw distance and max textures on every single object in the game would be a good idea for CryEngine 4's Enthusiast settings? I dunno, that might be a bit overkill though..

Crysis 1 seems to still be the benchmark game for video cards these days. Even for quad-SLI rigs. But that shouldn't mean you *need* to have amazing graphics card to play a game with good graphics. Just look at Portal 2. Max everything, 16x AA, 16x AF, triple buffer vsync and I'm still getting 60FPS with my sig rig. And it still looks beautiful (not as good as Crysis 2) and the game is awesome.

I think engines should become optimized like this in the future.. making use of quad core CPUs, quad-SLI, whatever the system has available.. Might as well make use of the hardware available.

Crysis 1 does feel a bit under-optimized in comparison to these games which is probably why it needs a beast of a system to get good framerates when everything is set to max.
