Monitor Screen Flashes for 2 hours then stops.

Thread Starter
I bought the SyncMasterâ„¢ 226BW 22" LCD monitor for $400 couple years ago.

(((This is all in the last months of its life.)))

The screen when I would leave it idle it would go into sleep mode or whatever and then when I move my mouse it would come back on but it would flash for couple min.

Week went by then when I would turn it on from it being off the screen would flash for like 30min I just put up with it.

Then after like a month it would flash really fast so it was hard to see the screen cause it was switching from back and forth so fast then it would slow down and be normal and the screen would be fine but it would do that for like 2 hours after I turn it on.

Lol I just tried to use the monitor again (been sitting in the corner for a month) with new cables and video card and it wouldn't even go to any screens would just stay black and have a VERY annoying ringing sound.... I would just pug in the power cable and it would ring and then turned it on and it would continue to ring.

Is this monitor gone or can it be fixed?

Similar thing happened to my old LCD, I think it's just the backlight that's gone. Not sure if that's fixable though.
I'd just get a new one anyway if you have the money, would probably be easier.

My take is that it is fixable, probably his inverter went out. There's a chance the lamp is gone too with the screen blinking like that for months. You should find a TV repairman, he should tell you right away what's the problem.

My bet is that it would cost at least a $100 to fix it. If not more, depending on the issue. That is, if you have a professional do it.

another thing to test would be the GPU. Did this problem exist before your 560 Ti upgrade?

Open it up and see if there are any dying capacitors in it before tossing it. Capacitors are 3-4$

Check the sig for my tutorial on the subject.

Depending on what is faulty it could cost a few bucks. Imho the only cost-effective way to fix this kind of problem is to arm yourself with a multimeter and an internet-found guide on how to troubleshoot that kind of fault, then order parts from ebay and change them yourself. If it is to cost 100$ you might as well add 50 more and buy a new one.

Good advice, the "whine" could point towards a broken cap (or a broken coil as well) which are cheap fixes.

When my LG monitor decides not to display a picture or flicker, i just whack the side of it and it works. Don't know how or why, but it works.
