is it possible to SLI the ASUS GTX 570 direct CU2 with the EVGA GTX 570 HD - Page 2

The only drawback is that the cards will run as the lowest of them.

Meaning if you have one card running at 1GHZ and the other at 500mhz, if you SLI them, they will both run at 500mhz.
Just to clarify, you won't actually 'see' the downclocking on the 1GHz card ... both cards will appear to run at the clocks they are set to. But you'll find that if you look at gpu usage, the 1GHz card will say 50% when the other cards says 100% usage. So the downclocking happens sorta 'under the covers'.

All this being said, in theory, nV is supposed to have corrected this issue. If you look at the specs on the 250.xx and up drivers, they claim to support something called 'asynchronous SLI'. TTBOMK this feature is supposed to mean that, in the scenario Defoler described, you would get performance like you would if both cards are at 750MHz.

I've not ever checked it personally so I've no idea if it works as advertised. It's also possible I'm misunderstanding how this feature is supposed to work.

Personally, regardless of whether async SLI works, I'd still not want to run my SLI'd cards at different clocks though

Actually, I ran two 570s at different clocks and they still yield better results if one is clocked higher in 3DMark and also Metro benchmark. So they do not have to be same clocks!! So if one is a better overclocker then overclock it higher than the other!
