I can't believe people are sitting here and defending harddrives over SSD's for OS use! And this is an enthusiast forum! What a joke! Lol!
I just don't understand how they are arguing price to performance when a 1.5TB+ drive is far from performance grade...I mean a raptor is like your top performer HDD wise...It's what 300GBs...Maybe my point is just lost on you guys.

Thats what I also waiting for, for them to cost as much as hard drive. I can wait a very long long time. I not gonna drop dead just because I dont have a SSD in my comp.

How is sandy bridge a frivolous expense? Its so affordable, why would you waste MORE money on OLDER tech.

2500K @ Microcenter - 179.99
Gigabyte p67 UD3 B3 - 109.99 after Rebate
Corsair XMS3 4GB ddr3 1600 CL9 - 39.99

Grand Frivolous Total For Sandy Bridge Upgrade - $329.97

For Comparison
Thuban 1100T - 229.99
i7 950 - 269.99 (Not exactly a fair comparison)
i5 760 - $209.99 (EOL socket)

You can barely even buy a 2600K from Newegg for that price. Get your facts straight before you start rambling. SB is a very affordable tech and its makes ALOT of sense for people to purchase it regardless of their purpose for their rig. One being cost and savings per performance.

SSDs are cool, ill probably get a 240GB in the next 2 weeks, but saying your not a true enthusiast because you dont wanna waste money on a part that offers minimal (if any) increase performance in CPU/GPU/Memory Benchmarks is just plain wowzers...

Why can't we just go back to the days where we would complain and argue about 3dmark points or heaven bench FPS.

OCN has enough elitest teenage attitudes to go around already :\\

We should all head over to the Nvidia or ATI Forums and make fun of anyone who is still running a dx10 card. Tell them dx11 BC2 or beat it. /end sarcasm.

When the Raptor came out it was just as expensive as SSDs are now...and it was 30GBs then it was 74GB then 150GB now 300GB, people were still buying them then and still bieng them now.

hell I bought two 74GB Raptors 200+ each.

im pretty sure most people do know ssd's are much better than hdd's , and seeing benchmarks do show that they are a worthy upgrade.. but THEY JUST DONT CARE

Frivolous because there are cheaper alternatives, just like a comparable HDD is cheaper than SSD.

In other words, why is SSD frivolous? "Get your facts straight before you start rambling."

I dont blame you, I wouldnt want to argue either... I just want clarification as to how and where the SSD is better.........

So a person with a 775 system, and they are looking at one or the other...

Will a SSD upgrade be better then a 2600k upgrade for a person encoding videos?

What about for F@H??

What about for rendering 3D and 3D modeling?

How about running Photoshop and multi tasking?

See there are alot of uses for a Computer.... And if the cpu/ram cant handle the program, a SSD is not going to change that...
