Water cooling..... good or bad... ???

Hi guys,

After planning a lot about my rig and at last selecting the components of my new Sandy Bridge based rig, I am now worried about my CPU Coolers.

Every single air cooler I see, are monsters, huge and extremely bulky...

The thing that worries me is that will a bulky Air CPU Cooler affect the mobo in a vertically rested position ??

Thus I turn my focus upon the more efficient Water Coolers such as the Corsair H70..... everyone say that it is very efficient and best suited for overclocking ( I will surely OC my 2600k for games... ).... so can you guys tell me if there lies any drawbacks in the H70 ?? I will also like to know, does it leak ?? Leakage is the only thing that pulls me back every time I think of getting it...... frown.gif............ So please assist me in this regard....

Thanks Guys,
Dev...

You should look at getting the Antec Kuhler 620 if you want all-in-one water cooling kit.

It is $25 cheaper than the H70 and is on beats the H70;

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/antec_kuhler_h20_620_review/4.htm

Especially if you put higher speed fans on it, the Antec Kuhler can become ~4-5*c cooler than the H70

I have the Asetek 570LX liquid Cooler with a 240 MM Rad. It is a sealed system, and does not leak. Been using it for over 8 months now, and I still love it.

Thanks for your quick response guys......

Actually in my area, H70 is the better supported product....

So thats why I want to have a clear understanding of its way of working and its system ( does it leak or not ?? ).....

Drawbacks - Overpriced, Enthusiat air coolers perform better for much less $$$, loud fans

Does it leak? - Hard to answer. It shouldn't and if you are careful when installing it, then you shouldn't have any issues. However no one can say categorically whether it will leak or not. Accidents do happen, its part of life but no one can say yes or no to this question.

Ok....... I see......

So can you confirm my unconfirmed thinking that will such bulky air coolers such as the Venomous X will affect the mobo in a vertical position...??

I used a Noctua NH-D14 for about 10 months before going water cooling and it had no impact on my mobo (no warping) and my motherboard oriented vertically.

Just make sure you install the backplate correctly (its there for a reason) and make sure all your mobo standoffs and on properly to ensure the motherboard is secured properly to the mobo tray of your case and you should be just fine with an air cooler

you will be fine with a proper air cooler.
i have a Tuniq tower 120, i think it weighs at least 1kg.
this and most big coolers come with a back plate that sits on the other side of the mobo, so the cooler screws go into this,
these are designed for this and help support the weight

as said something like a noctua d14 or the thermalright silver arrow can be better than some prebuilt watercooling kit like the h50 or h70.

also most watercooling guys will not like you saying that the h50 or h70 is watercooling, wink.gif
they dont rate these prebuilt kits at all,

I have a H50 on a i5-750 and love it. These units take the heat out of the case - They don't dump it into the case like an air cooler. Use which ever one you like - Corsair, Antec, Rasa. Air Coolers belong in the 80s.
