So, OP, you buy a 250 dollar card but fail to spend 70 bucks on a decent set of RAM? Drivers aren't your only issue here then.

Widnows 7 will take up about 1GB of RAM just running, add in background processes and tasks, on top of that add in the game, you're bottlencking your system.
This is precisely why I asked what I did, especially if he's got antivirus etc running in the background.

1: Windows will take up far less than 1 GB if he's low on RAM. I ran W7 on an E8200 + HD 5850 + 2 GB RAM for a year, no bottlenecks.
2: If he was RAM bottlenecked, his GPU usage wouldn't be 100%.

Stop being dramatic.

Also, why does your sig say 1 GB RAM?

Also, why does your sig say 1 GB RAM?
Windows 7 will not compensate for low RAM as much as it could if he has all of his services (such as Aero) turned on. If he has other things like Antivirus running that's another hit. His GPU will most certainly take over the workload to compensate what his CPU and RAM are not doing.

As for my sig, I have a total of 12GB of RAM. Just a typo. Why are you Danish?

then go fix it because it does say 1GB

Dear OP,
Stop being stubborn and upgrade your driver and buy a 2x2gb set of RAM off newegg for $40 and start enjoying portal 2.

Sincerely,

That's your problem right there.

It will compensate to some degree, it'll take up about 700 MB if he's low IIRC. Just running AV in the background wouldn't take up that much if he isn't doing a complete scan. I used to run Steam, Skype, Xfire, AVG and various mouse/keyboard apps and I never had a problem on 2 GB. Task Manager would report about 1.8 GB use in demanding games. I only had problems when running Adobe After Effects and Sony Vegas.

Also, I've never heard that the GPU will do any of the RAM's work. If you have any proof of this, that'd be very interesting. From what I know (and I do know some) it'd just bottleneck and his GPU usage would go down, like a CPU bottleneck. Actually, what you said doesn't make sense, 'cause the GPU usage would just go down if he was CPU bottlenecked, it wouldn't compensate.

I'm Danish because I live in Denmark?
