This. If you don't have a good set of headphones then a high quality sound card is worthless.

You can't just say "your open for suggestions." We need a budget! I would be more than happy to recommend you my Woo Audio 2 coupled with my Sennheiser HD800's. However, that would set you back $2500.

So, give us the total amount that you can spend on your audio gear and than we can start making suggestions for you.

Ok head set, 120$ would be the price limit. Sound Card 200$. Is the G35 a good headset? I read that headsets with USB have sound cards in them or some-kind of audio processing and a sound-card will not work properly with them, is that true?

It is true that headsets with USB will not use your sound card because the headset will automatically default to use USB headset drivers, rather than sound card drivers. With an analog headset, this does not happen.

Yes, the issue with USB headsets is that they use a built in DAC. This DAC bypasses any audio processing that you have on the PC. Thus, giving you sh** audio quality. The most popular entry level, audiophile headphones are the following.

All of the proceeding headphones will give you a much better audio experience than anything with an attached mic. Your best bet would be to purchase one of the proceeding along with a mic. The Zalman can be head for as little as $5 when it is on sale.

Like I said earlier in the thread. I am also selling my set of Audio Technica A700's in "Like New" condition for $85 shipped. If your interested, shoot me a PM.

As for the sound card, I would suggest the Asus Xonar STX. The STX is a premiere headphone card because of its built in headphone pre-amp. Its on the upper end of your budget, however, it will give you plenty of room to grow your audio gear without the need to purchase a new source.

Moltar hit the nail on the head. Go with some headphones with a Zalman mic. Out of what he suggested, I'd personally go with the 555s or the AD700s. For gaming with a set of headphones <$100, I'd go with the Xonar DX. If you feel like going overkill on the card, then the Titanium HD is a good card for gaming. (STX being superior in music)

If I was you, I'd grab a DX and put the extra cash towards your headphones.
