The thing is, if I take a vacation to the Bahamas for example, what could someone do with that GPS information? The "hacker" would be like "Ok, cool, this dude took a trip to the Bahamas." Even then, it would still be hard for someone to find out your daily commute (to work, school, home, etc.). And if they knew your daily commute, you're still running the risk of someone confronting you (getting mugged, raped, shot, etc.) who doesn't have your GPS information.

It's just all a bunch of "what-if's."

I've got nothing to hide, so I don't really care. And if someone does steal my phone, I'll be able to wipe it clean. And good luck stealing my desktop lol

That's great.

There are others that having nothing to hide, but do care. That argument is invalid.

Not this again.

You don't have any idea what someone else can put together with information. That alone is reason enough to be wary what is available.

Just because we're doing nothing wrong doesn't mean its ok to invade your privacy and potentially put you at risk, either directly or indirectly. Do you think it would be ok to have you under 24 hour video surveillance by the government? Well, according to you, you do nothing wrong so you have nothing to hide. I guess you wouldn't object with mandatory bi-weekly urine and blood tests either right? To make sure your not doing any illegal drugs or anything like that. Shouldn't bother you, you do nothing wrong and have nothing to hide. It's simply about your personal right to privacy.

Also, someone could find a way to hack the phone and "return" it to the rightful owner. Then that person could see you leave town and be like "enjoy your trip, when you get back, your place will be empty" and that sort of thing.

Would you still be shrugging off the fact that your privacy is completely invaded then, since as you put it so plainly, you have nothing to hide.

Am i right in understanding that this relies on tower triangulation?

Nevermind, I answered my own question.

This is useful for people paranoid about having someone try to frame them in some kind of crime. I can't think of any other good uses for it though...

Just because you can't think of anything doesn't mean it's all good!

I know I'm a bit more cautious than most, but it makes my brain melt how little people are aware of how information can be maliciously exploited. And we're talking networked devices. ONLINE to the world.
