Gigabyte Z68 Board Information

From my favourite retailer, Aria PC, comes this statement:

Quote:
Hi Guys,

I've found some info many people will not be too happy about but just a heads up.

While lots of you are waiting for Z68 over the cheaper P67, there is one manufacturer who seems to have missed a vital part about Z68. I've only seen two boards from Gigabyte, but there is no VGA outputs on the Z68 UD7 & UD3P. Whether its the same for the rest of the line up from GBT's Z68 boards i'm not sure, but it doesn't bode well for them. It appears they are just using the same P67 PCBs and rebranding as Z68

I've asked around ASUS & MSI and all their boards feature the expected VGA outputs. P67 wasn't too great for GBT with both ASUS & MSI offering better boards for the money, especially MSI, so I expected GBT to jump on board as it seems GBT are dropping P67 all together in favour of Z68. Risky, but the fact that they haven't done something as vital offering VGA outputs is a big mistake in my mind.

While i'm not saying GBT's boards are pants, they will be very fast and great OC'ers as expected but will be missing a vital point about Z68.

Just some reasons why they have missed a trick here:

· When you cannot connect VGA cables to your mainboard VGA output and you need to use the discrete graphics output, so it can never be shut down for saving power.

· If your low on cash, you may way to upgrade to a decent GPU later down the line and just OC the onboard VGA meanwhile.

· Think about when your discrete VGA card dies… do you have a 2nd one in house to test and trouble shoot your PC? Most times not so in this case your Gigabyte Z68 system is useless.

I just got a press release from MSI today too about all the features their Z68 boards will offer - http://uk.msi.com/news.php?news_no=105

P67 for MSI was awesome. We use them a lot as they offer so much bang for buck. Looking at their Z68 features and no doubt competitive prices again, it looks set GBT will struggle yet again.

Disappointing really. I do like Gigabyte boards for their reliability and I was going to get the Z68x-UD4-B3 when they are released after sending my current P67 board back to the retailer I got it from.

But it seems I'll need to do more motherboard research all over again between Asus and MSI since I've never really paid much attention to MSI and Asus are know for dodgy bios's and crashes.

Onboard VGA connection are a big plus for the Z68 boards for me. No point in having one without them.

Just seen the GA-Z68-UD4H and it looks like it has a VGA port on it at the top left.

So maybe the early engineering samples don't have any VGA ports on them? I can only hope that all GB Z68 board will have them though.

It might be the the UD3R is a budget board and so they've removed it for cost cutting.

The UD7 then doesn't have it because maybe it's an overclockers board or whatnot.

What on earth would you do with a VGA port? More important is that it will have DVI/HDMI! And based on that picture, it will have them

Z68 is more or less just P67 w/ video output, correct?

Correct, with some other features like ssd caching

QUESTION: I am assuming the Z68 will allow you to add in a Graphics card if you so choose or use the on board graphics? In which case if the card goes bad ,you can switch to integrated if needed?

I have an old LCD (or maybe TFT) screen that uses VGA. Don't laugh.

Yes. Also when you have dedicated GFX in you can still use onboard one for video rendering and stuff like that. So you can play a game on dedicated while you wait for some videos to render or something.
